Hello.

The British Squad have studied the draft task catalogue and the Local
Regulations in our training sessions and we have the following
questions. Please can you clarify the queries below?

Thanks

Barney (on behalf of the British Squad Pilots)

Questions arising from the draft task catalogue:

• Section 1.2 - please define and quantify the word "devious".
• Sections 2.2 and 2.3: what happens if one pilot goes from start to
finish directly without passing any timing gates, but gets a very fast
time for the speed bonus? Is the speed bonus dependent upon all the
gates being crossed correctly as well?
• Sections 2.2, 2.3, and 2.4: Please define and quantify the terms
"backtracking" and "excessive delay" in the task specific penalties.
• Section 2.3. Text is unclear. First it says "Crossing the same gate
more than once in any direction invalidates the gate", but in the
paragraph below it says "If a time gate is crossed more than once,
time will be extracted from the first crossing". Please clarify this.
• Section 3.2: The document says "Failure to land in the landing deck:
20% penalty". Is this for outside the deck, but inside the airfield?
Or is this for ANYWHERE that is outside of the defined deck, including
outside of the overall airfield? Section 1.14.2 of the local
regulations states that normally landing outside of the briefed
airfield will result in 100% penalty, but will this rule apply to this
task, if the triangle course takes pilots outside of the airfield?
• Section 3.3: Is there a landing deck, and if yes, what is the
penalty for landing outside deck?
• Section 3.4: Is the score normalised to 1000 points?
Is there a landing deck, and if yes, what is the penalty for landing
outside deck?
Is thermalling not allowed on first two legs of this economy task?
• Section 3.5: Is the score normalised to 1000 points?
Is there a landing deck, and if yes, what is the penalty for landing
outside deck?
• Sections 4.5, 4.6, 4.7, 4.9, and 4.10: The time penalty "Vpen" for
each missed target is mentioned but not defined numerically. Please
specify what this time penalty will be.
• Section 4.8: Are the latest rules on the Slow Fast task voted in at
Cima 2011 and now in the 2012 Section 10 to be used?

Questions arising from draft Local regulations:

• Section 1.4: "One copy of the official map, based on IGN 1:200,000".
Please confirm what scale of map pilots will be issued to fly with,
because the one shown on the official website is 1:70,000. Also, do
pilots have to fly ONLY with the published competition map, or can we
carry our own maps, or printouts from Google Earth?
• Section 2.1.4: "A landing deck is a clearly marked area defined at
the briefing". Please clarify exactly how the deck will be marked out
- i.e. will it be a tape on the ground? or will it be cones at the
corners? Or some other method?
• Section 2.2.2: "Distance will be measured for all competitors on the
same official map, of a scale not smaller than1:100,000". Is the
competition map not 1:70,000?

Other general questions:

• Will marquees be provided for each of the teams or do we need to
provide our own?

Hallo, I would like to thank Brittish team for every question they make, since most of them are my questions as well - so I would like to support it and I am waiting for answers
specifically the value of vpen as I believe that values about 1 or 2 requires different approach to this task than values like 15
Kind regards
Kuba (Czech team)
