Brief Description:
- 4/4/3 teaching load
- Writing Specialists
work with Content Instructors in the Humanities Core classes to teach first-year undergraduates writing in their required writing component
(HUMA 19100: http://collegecatalog.uchicago.edu/thecollege/humanities/).
- Writing Specialists teach
3 writing workshop sets per quarter for each class. Each workshop set will contain 3 small groups, which works out to be a total of
*9, 80-minute workshops over the quarter* for *each* section in which the Writing Specialist will
be teaching; a total of *36 workshops* per quarter.
- Writing Specialists also sit in on the class sessions taught by Content Instructors, but they are not responsible
for lesson planning in those sessions.
- This position is
open to scholars in all fields (not just Humanities!).
- The
job is renewable upon performance and need. While it’s not a requirement, we are hoping to hire someone who intends to stay in the position for at least 2 years.
In September, before classes begin, Writing Specialists will
take part in an accelerated version of our pedagogical training course (HUMA 50000) and produce materials to support their teaching in the classroom. Teaching will begin in Autumn quarter and will continue through Winter and Spring. The training course in
September will likely be a hybrid of in-person and remote learning. According to recent University announcements, instruction will take place in-person starting in Autumn quarter.
