What Is WPA-Announcements?
This is an announcement list for calls, job listings, conferences, and other matters of interest to those who teach rhetoric and composition in higher ed. Appropriate posts can include announcements for new sites, new books/articles, new journal issues, and other new/updated things of interest to those teaching in or managing writing programs.
The list does NOT forward the following:
- Announcements related to individual conference sessions
- Repeated posts/information on calls, jobs, etc., unless a reasonable period of time has passed or a correction is needed
- Anything that is not accessible (e.g., an image without a transcript of the text)
What Kind of List Is WPA-Announcements?
This is not a discussion list. It focuses only on distributing relevant details on new, evolving, and in-progress work relevant to the scholarship of writing, composition, rhetoric and teaching (and all the intersections of those areas).
Where Do WPA-Announcements Come From?
Announcements are forwarded from a variety of sources, including Writing Studies, WCENTER, ATTW-L, and CPTSC. Announcements from Twitter and Facebook may be forwarded as well. All messages are reviewed before posting. Check the
Posting Guidelines for more details on potential changes and requirements.
I make decisions on all items that are posted. My decisions are final.

How Do You View WPA-Announcements without Joining?
Anything Else I Should Know?
I manage the list and the related sites myself, so I have set limitations to save my time and sanity:
- You need to write your own announcements. I don't have time to write them for you.
- Ask a friend or colleague if you need someone to preview your message. I can't preview or provide feedback.
- Check the list if you want to know whether your announcement has been posted. I cannot provide proof of posting messages.
- Find basic information on the Google Groups page. I cannot gather statistics on the messages sent (e.g., if your college wants to know where your job announcement was distributed, tell them the list name and the number of current members of the list).
- You are all kind and delightful, but I don't have time to reply to every email that I am sent.
