The Emory Writing Program is hiring postdocs for next year in three-year positions. Please see announcement below.

Location--Atlanta, GA

Open Date--Mar 22, 2023

Deadline--Apr 21, 2023 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

Description

The Writing Program at Emory University, housed in the College of Arts and Sciences and the English Department, is accepting applications from recent PhD graduates (no more than three years out from conferral of degree) with an interest in expanding their portfolios to include the teaching of writing, pedagogical innovation, and program development and assessment. These one-year fellowships, which may be renewed up to three years, include a 3/3 teaching assignment or equivalent as well as full faculty benefits. Salary range is $50,000 – $55,000. Applicants must have the PhD completed before hiring.  Fellows are expected to be in Atlanta prior to the beginning of the fall 2023 semester.

In the initial year, fellows teach primarily in our first-year writing program, drawing on their disciplinary training to develop topical courses within a teaching-for-transfer framework.

Fellows will be expected to participate in our portfolio assessment process as a part of their professional development.

In subsequent years fellows may have opportunities to:

  • Teach an established course in the Writing Program such as Rhetorical Grammar; Multimedia Journalism; Technical Writing; Rhetorical Studies; or Race, Gender, and Media Making, for example.
  • Develop an upper-division class in one or more of the following: writing in disciplinary contexts, professional editing and style, grant research and proposal writing, multilingual writing, advanced argument writing, persuasion and social movements, or other contributions to our Rhetoric, Writing, and Information Design (RWID) minor.
  • Develop an administrative role of interest in an area of need for the Writing Program, such as Writing Across Emory (WAC/WID), FYW, or RWID.
  • Assist in cultivating community-engaged learning opportunities for students in the RWID minor.

We support fellows by providing pedagogical training prior to their work in the first-year writing program as well as ongoing professional development opportunities and mentoring. We encourage fellows to pursue their scholarly agendas, provide multiple opportunities for public presentation of scholarly work, and assist fellows as they extend their research to include pedagogy, multiliteracies, digital humanities, and/or assessment.

The Emory Writing Program is committed to research and teaching in the fields of rhetoric and composition. The Writing Program offers courses in First Year Writing, rhetorical studies, technical writing, and in support of a minor in RWID. It also operates the college Writing Center and runs clinics across Emory College on writing in the disciplines.
