Come work with us!  We’re a small Writing & Rhetoric Dept. in rural New York state, looking for a VAP who teaches public speaking (among other things) — and a TT search for next year has already been authorized.  Colgate is a small liberal arts college, and what we lack in city amenities we make up for in sociability.  Our classes are small, our students are bright and eager, and the institution provides a good deal of support.  Plus, we like each other.

The Department of Writing & Rhetoric at Colgate University invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor position in rhetoric and public address, beginning fall semester 2021. The department seeks a colleague who can contribute to the ongoing development of its liberal arts program in rhetoric, writing, and speaking. A tenure-track hire in this field has already been authorized, and the successful candidate will be encouraged to apply for that position. 

Required qualifications: PhD, completed or near completion in rhetoric or related field; demonstrated excellence in teaching public speaking. Preferred secondary specialties include civic engagement, sonic rhetorics, and rhetorics of performance. Experience teaching first-year composition particularly welcome. Teaching responsibilities for the year consist of five courses, including public speaking, and upper-level courses in the candidate’s area of specialty. There will be an opportunity to teach or develop a new course that would contribute to the Writing & Rhetoric minor concentration.
