Hey all:

The College of Lake County (CLC) is currently looking for a Tutoring Coordinator for our writing center services.  The CLC Writing Center is part of larger Tutoring Center but the Writing Center has its own identity, thanks to the collaboration between this staff position and the Faculty Coordinator position, which I have been in for a number of years.


CLC is a community college serving the northern Chicago suburbs and the students were serve come from a diverse range of communities in Lake County.  For more information about our Writing Center, check out our blog:

Job Summary
The Tutoring Coordinator, under the supervision of the Tutoring Center Manager, is responsible for delivery of academic tutoring services in writing and related subject areas as needed. The coordinator oversees the day-to-day operations of the center and supervises tutors to ensure high quality services are provided. The coordinator works collaboratively with other tutoring center coordinators to promote innovative tutoring strategies, respond to student needs, and foster awareness of and access to tutoring services.

Required Qualification
  1. Bachelor’s degree 
  2. Minimum of three (3) years of recent college-level writing center experience 
  3. Knowledge of composition theory and best practices in writing pedagogy 
  4. Ability to administer writing center services in both in-person and online environments. 
  5. Minimum of one (1) year of recent supervisory experience 
  6. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate across all levels through strong verbal, written, and presentation skills 
  7. Proficiency with Microsoft Office 
  8. Proven ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. 
Desired Qualifications
  1. Master’s degree, preferably in composition studies 
  2. Experience working in a community college 
  3. Recent experience in tutoring college students 
  4. Bilingual Spanish
