Hello all,

We're hiring! We are searching for a tenure-track Instructor for our first-year writing program at SUNY Cortland. The job ad is at the end of this post. Review of applications begins December 1, 2025.

The first-year writing program is part of the English Department at SUNY Cortland. Our department is also home to three undergraduate majors (Adolescence English Education; Professional Writing; and English) and two graduate programs (M.A.T. in Adolescence English Education and M.A. in English.) SUNY Cortland is located right in the middle of New York State in the lovely central New York region, about 45 minutes from Syracuse, Ithaca, and Binghamton.

Salary Range: $53,500 – $58,500

 

The State University of New York at Cortland seeks a candidate for the tenure-track position of Instructor in the First-Year Composition Program. The successful candidate will also have opportunities to teach occasional undergraduate courses in the English Department’s Professional Writing and English major programs.

Major responsibilities:

 

·       Teaching: 4/3 teaching load, with primary teaching responsibility in SUNY Cortland’s Composition Program.

·       Scholarship/Research: Engagement in the field of writing studies with conference attendance and presentations is expected.

·       Service: Participate in department and college-wide committees and other forms of service.


Required qualifications: Master’s degree in Rhetoric and Composition, English, or related field, and at least three years teaching experience in first-year writing.

Preferred qualifications:
 Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition, English, or related field; background in writing pedagogy; and demonstrated engagement within scholarly field of study.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Commitment to participating in an active teaching community.
