ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF RHETORIC AND COMPOSITION FALL 2022

A nine-month, full-time, tenure-track faculty position responsible for teaching English Composition. This position will contribute to our general education composition program and Professional Writing and Publication major. Candidates with experience and/or interest in the position of Writing Center Director are preferred.

The candidate would be expected to teach 12 credits per semester, primarily general education courses.  When the candidate assumes the Writing Center Director position, the teaching load is 9 credits per semester.

Though areas of specialization are open, we prefer candidates with demonstrated interests in one or more of the following areas: composition studies, writing center administration, digital rhetoric, media studies, professional writing, and technical communication.

In addition, the ideal candidate will be able to integrate technology into teaching practice. Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references. Cover letters should address the candidate's innovative teaching philosophy and practice, how they will contribute to and enhance the Writing Center at Central Methodist University, how they may participate in the current rotation of English courses at CMU, and what special topics/new course ideas they believe would engage our student population.

We will begin reviewing applications on January 10, 2022 and continue until the position is filled.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. in English, Rhetoric & Composition, Professional Writing, or related field is required. Experience working in or administrating a writing center is preferred. The successful candidate will be committed to working with students at a teaching-focused university and show evidence of innovative teaching and course development.
