Dear Writing Center friends
The
WLN editorial team is delighted to announce the latest issue (50.2 2026) of
WLN: A Journal of Writing Center Scholarship. We are open access! The full issue is here:

After an opening editor's note by Omar Yacoub, the latest issue proceeds with the following chapters:
In “Improv-ing Grammar: Pushing Back Against AI-Assisted Grammar Technologies by Going Back to Basics,” Kristi Girdharry invites us to consider grammar instruction as a rhetorical, improvisational practice; she offers strategies to help tutors question AI-generated
corrections while supporting writers’ as they make informed language choices.
In “Writing Centers as a Bridge Between Silos: Interdisciplinary Conversations on AI and Writing,” Salena Anderson, Jonathan Bull, Ameena Madani, and Zainab Albujasim describe a writing center–led campus panel on generative AI, reflecting on how their model
may be used to promote critical AI literacy and lead collaborative conversations about AI and writing.
In “Workshop Assessments as Tools for Learning: Integrating Prior Knowledge and Reflection Surveys into an APA Citation Workshop,” Katie Garahan and April Markowski explore how writing center workshop assessments can support ongoing learning and improvement
in workshop design and instruction.
Finally, in their Tutor Column, “Supporting Hard-of-Hearing and Deaf Writers,” Meara Haggerty draws on their experiences as a writing tutor and speech-language pathology student to highlight the importance of adaptive tutoring strategies.
