Dear Colleagues,

I’m happy to announce recipients of the 2025 Janice M. Lauer Institutional Achievement Award in Rhetoric & Composition Doctoral Studies! This award, sponsored by the Consortium of Doctoral Programs in Rhetoric & Composition (CDPRC), recognizes institutional innovations that enhance doctoral education and student development in the field.

The winner is The Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) Department of English, Linguistics, and Writing Studies (ELWS) and the University of Utah’s Department of Writing and Rhetoric Studies (WRS)! Read highlights about the SLCC and UT partnership, which advances graduate education by providing relevant preparation for composition faculty at two-year colleges and other access-oriented institutions.

An honorable mention was awarded to the Humanities at Work Initiative at UNC Greensboro. Through experiential learning, innovative classroom instruction, and professional development, Humanities at Work prepares students to recognize their strengths and imagine meaningful careers in their communities and the world. Read highlights about the program. A special thanks to the Lauer award committee—CDPRC board members Lucía Durá, Dundee Lackey, and Brad Lucas—for their dedication and hard work!

Join us for our spring meeting, hosted on Zoom, to learn more about the Lauer award winners and their programs. We will be joined by Professors Darin Jensen and Christie Toth, respectively of SLCC and WRS, and Professor Heather Adams of UNC-G. You can register for the February 9, 6:00-7:15pm (EST) meeting at https://ucincinnati.zoom.us/meeting/register/vKoHh64UQj2w1OSkgjlVBA (you’ll receive a join link after you register). In addition to hearing about the award-winning programs, you’ll get a chance to talk with colleagues from other institutions about graduate program innovations, challenges, and aspirational goals. This meeting is open to anyone in the field with interest in graduate program administration and/or curricula.

And, finally, some other ways to get involved:

  • Come see us at our sponsored CCCC panel! “Faculty and Student Perspectives on Graduate-Level Pedagogy” is happening on Saturday, 3/7, 12:30pm-1:45pm, 26A, Huntington Convention Center (Ballroom Level C4).

  • Nominate yourself or a colleague an at-large seats on the CDPRC board. This 2-year term begins fall 2026 and involves attending occasional remote meetings, helping to plan the CCCC sponsored panel, and contributing to special initiatives as needed. Nominations can be made at https://forms.gle/XA3NUQyh6xSNvs2a7

  • We maintain profiles of doctoral programs and their offerings as a resource for prospective graduate students and for research purposes. Visit our site to ensure that your program is represented in our profile document! If it’s not, complete this form, and we’ll add your info to the doc. If your program is already listed and you’d like to make some updates, use this form.

Thanks, and best wishes,
Laura
