Position Information
Description & Details:
The successful candidate will participate in two vibrant departments, our English Department and our School of Education, both offering undergraduate, masters, and doctoral degrees in a supportive, friendly, and inclusive atmosphere for faculty and students at all levels.
Responsibilities: This is a tenure-track position with an emphasis in English and English Education. The position will be housed in the English Department with a joint appointment in the School of Education. The teaching load will typically include two courses in the English department and two courses in the School of Education each year in the areas described below.. Opportunities exist to develop and teach courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. The successful candidate will pursue a scholarly research agenda through presentations and publications. A consistent record of scholarly production and publication is expected at the time of tenure. Duties also include supervision of field experiences in local schools; advising graduate and undergraduate students; and collaboration with internal and external constituencies.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate by time of hire in English, English Education, or closely related field.
- Eighteen credits graduate coursework in Rhetoric and Writing Studies (or demonstrated research and publication in Rhetoric and Writing Studies)
- At least 3 years of successful English language arts teaching experience in grades 6-12.
- Postsecondary teaching experience in Rhetoric and Writing Studies (e.g. first-year writing courses, writing center work, or other relevant teaching or administrative experiences in a college writing program)
- Evidence of demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.
- Evidence of effective written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD in Rhetoric, Writing Studies, or closely related field.
- Relevant college or university teaching experience.
- Developed record of scholarly activities including publications and conference presentations.
- Evidence of preparation to advise doctoral students in Rhetoric and Writing Studies in a range of methodologies and approaches
- Graduate coursework in any of the following areas of writing studies: research methods, writing program administration, cultural rhetorics, history of rhetoric, rhetorical theory, writing assessment, and/or writing center studies
- Graduate or undergraduate coursework in content area reading, and/or science of reading.
- Experience with school-university collaboration (e.g. supervision of student teachers)
- Technological proficiency, including familiarity with online/remote teaching practices
Preferred Teaching Competencies: The successful candidate will be prepared to teach one or more of the following courses regularly offered in the English department as part of our bachelors degrees in English and English Education; masters in English, and Ph.D. in Rhetoric, Writing, and Culture.

- ENGL 435/635: Young Adult Literature in a Multicultural World
- ENGL 756: Composition Research
- ENGL 755: Composition Theory
- ENGL 764: Classroom Strategies for TAs
- 600- or 700-level graduate electives in Rhetoric/Writing Studies
It is anticipated that the successful candidate will regularly teach the following courses in the School of Education:
- EDUC 481/681 Secondary Methods in English Language Arts I
- EDUC 482/682 Secondary Methods in English Language Arts II
With a possibility of teaching:
- EDUC 475/775 Reading in the Content Areas or other courses as assigned
