Thanks!

The Department of English in the McCausland College of Arts and Sciences at the University of South Carolina’s flagship campus in Columbia invites applications for two (2) full‑time, professional‑track faculty positions at the rank of Instructor to begin August 16, 2026. These are 9-month appointments with full benefits and a teaching load of eight courses across the academic year. Initial appointments may be for one or three years and are renewable, contingent upon satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding. Professional‑track faculty may also become eligible for promotion and for renewable contracts of up to five years in length. The successful candidate will teach a 4:4 load of English 101 and/or English 102 with the possibility of other English courses, dependent upon the needs of the department. With this hire we seek to expand our professional-track faculty to provide excellent, engaging, and effective instruction of first-year composition.

Candidates must hold a terminal degree in English or a related discipline, completed by August 15, 2026, and have a minimum of three years of experience teaching English at the college level, with demonstrated excellence in teaching first-year composition. The ability to teach business and technical writing is highly desirable.

All applicants must apply online at USCJobs at https://uscjobs.sc.edu. Applications must include: (1) a cover letter describing teaching experience and interests; (2) a curriculum vitae; (3) the names and email addresses of 3 references (the search committee will request letters of recommendation directly); and (4) evidence of teaching effectiveness (to be submitted under “Other Supporting Documents”), which might include a statement of teaching philosophy, student evaluations, sample syllabi, sample peer observations, etc.

The review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the positions are filled. At the University of South Carolina, positions are advertised for a minimum of five (5) business days on our job website. After five (5) business days, positions can be closed at the discretion of the department at any time. This employment site is updated on a regular basis. The length of the recruitment and screening process may vary from position to position, depending upon a variety of factors. Should review of your qualifications result in a decision to pursue your candidacy, you will be contacted by phone or email. Please direct inquiries about the search to Kevin Brock, Director of the First-Year English Program, broc...@mailbox.sc.edu.
