Briefly put, the Brittain Teaching Fellowship provides up to three years of full-time, benefitted support to recent PhDs who serve as instructional faculty in our writing and communication program. We provide strong support for their development as teachers as well as ongoing research and job search support. First-year Brittain Fellow base salary is $56,635 (plus moving/travel funds) with the salary increasing for the second and third years of the fellowship.
True teaching postdocs are, unfortunately, a rarity in our field, I think. But even in this small group, the Brittain Fellowship stands out as exemplary. Just recently we’ve won, for example, the Georgia Regents Teaching Excellence Award, the Georgia Tech Diversity Champion Award, and the CCCC Certificate of Program Excellence.
We’re certainly grateful for these accolades but we’re even more gratified by the ways in which the Brittain Fellowship has helped recipients forward their own career goals. Just last year, for example, we placed *18* -- yes EIGHTEEN -- Brittain Fellows into full-time jobs. These jobs are mostly tenure track or other full time permanent instructional positions, but we’ve also placed Britts into other roles including academic program staff and, increasingly, private sector jobs. (Atlanta, as an always growing and diverse city, with many universities and large corporate employers like Google, is a great place to explore these roles.)
I’m happy to answer questions about the Fellowship, but you can find more information, including the ad and informational videos here:
