I am happy to announce that Reflections  is now accepting applications for a new editor/editorial team starting in Fall 2020 – with the new editor/s’ first issue being published in Spring 2021. I have been fortunate to be involved in Reflections for almost a decade during which time I have witnessed how the journal editors have pushed against the disciplinary restrictions of our field to publish scholarship that speaks to the current moment, to the meaning of community-engagement, and to the potential of writing and rhetoric to create change. In doing so, they have also actively sought to publish not just scholars who represent the full scope of heritages, identities, and labor conditions of our field, but also the community voices and activist practices which work toward a better future. The next editor, then, will step into a tradition from which important work can be accomplished within the pages of the journal. They can publish insights that can provide guidance for those working to change classrooms and communities.

I hope anyone who share such commitments will apply to be editor. We welcome your insights to the twenty year history of the journal. Please contact me directly with any questions.

Accepting Applications:

Editor/s,Reflections: A Journal of Community-Engaged Writing and Rhetoric

reflectionsjournal.net

Reflections is the oldest continuous journal dedicated to community writing and partnership in the field of Composition and Rhetoric. As it enters its 20th year, we are seeking a new Editor/Editorial team to build upon the journal's commitment to publishing scholars and community activists from across all communities engaged in the public work writing, research, and rhetoric of disciplinary and political change. We are particularly looking for editorial leadership that will address and work against the systemic biases which block certain voices and knowledges from being adequately recognized and valued within debates in our field. This includes leadership that will actively seek to increase representation in the journal from historically marginalized voices doing work in community engaged writing and rhetoric. The editorial term is typically three years with the option of renewal.

Editor/Editorial Teams will be responsible for publishing two open-access issues of the journal per year, as well as build upon existing relationships with disciplinary/community organizations which speak to the values of the journal. They will also be responsible for expanding the board by five members. It is expected that Editor/Editorial Teams will also receive support from their home institutions, such as financial support for the journal, graduate assistant appointment or course reductions. The Reflections team will work with applicants on this element of the application. New editor/s should be prepared to work with the outgoing editors in a transitional period beginning in September 2020.

NOTE: We actively encourage non-tenure track, non-Research 1 university, faculty members to apply for this position. Preference will be given to Editorial Teams whose membership reflects the diversity and labor conditions of our discipline.

Applications due by December 31, 2019.

Applications materials should include: Cover letter, Statement of Editorial Goals/Philosophy, Editorial Experience, and Curriculum Vitae. A statement of financial support from the home institution is not required until the second stage of interviews.
