Looks like my last reply went directly to your email, so I thought I
figure I'll post my question again. I have a similar problem as Henry
as I am also running WP 2.1 on a Mac with OS X 10 and when you click
on the Skype button on my blog (http://www.aberrantphoto.com/
news.html) using Firefox 2.0 you get the same download skype pop-up
window, even though I have the latest skype version on my machine,
version 2.6. However, the skype button does work if your using Safari
2.0.4 on the Mac. It launches skype and all. Any ideas on why this
wouldn't be working in Firefox? Could it be the version of he plugin?
It would be great to find a fix since a lot of people are mainly using
Firefox these days. Thanks.

Cheers,

Tone

Using Firefox 2.0 myself, I haven't found any problems. It sounds like
your FF setup has some issues with the javascript that is provided by
Skype. My plugin only facilitates easy setup of the Skype code on your
blog. The script that comes with it, is fetched real-time from the
skype website.

Following your link http://www.aberrantphoto.com/news.html I get a 404
error, so I cannot check for any problems... What happens if you visit
with FF my website http://www.4visions.nl/en/index.php?section=55
(look for the Skype button on the right side)?

Allard,

Sorry about the 404 error. My site was down for a couple days due to
hosting issues. Anyways, the link should work now. As for your site,
and the skype link, I get the same pop-up window to download skype as
I do on my own site. This only occurs in Firefox however. Do you think
it could be some settings in the Firefox preferences or just that i'm
on a Mac?

Cheers,

Tone

Sounds like it is purely a javascript issue that only occurs on FF
+Mac... At least as far as I know. Have you googled for this issue? Or
tried http://support.skype.com/ to find an answer? It is their code
and maybe they can tell you more :)

If you find anything, please be so kind to come back here and tell
about it. Like you noticed, you are not the only one with this
problem.

Thanks!

Correction: this issue occurs on FF + Linux too... :(

Just never noticed it before as I have only recently moved to run
Ubuntu Linux next to WinXP on my laptop.

If I find anything, I'll let you know!

Found this related thread on the skype forums:
http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=83136&hl=button

Would yoube able to test the suggested fix, or is it all too
complicated for you?

I you (as I and many others have done) go and open a support ticket on
http://support.skype.com/?_a=tickets&_m=submit describing this issue,
Skype might consider fixing their script code...
