Timeline for events based on Event Date not Post Date

The timeline plugin is fantastic and does 99% of what I need. Is there
a way to customize it so that Events show up on the timeline using the
Event Start Date rather than the post date?

Hopefully this one has not already been answered

There are additional start and end date options at the bottom of the
post interface.
As soon as you're using these, the original WordPress post date is
omitted and the entry will be rendered at your custom date inside the
timeline.

Hi,
do you mean Start Date and End Date?
I tried various options or entries in combination with the switches "Edit timestamp" and "Reset tmestamp".
After saving them with 'Update' the entries are still the same.

What am I missing here?

I tried setting them and updated the post; also used all combinations of the switches "Edit timestamp" and "Reset timestamp" but nothing worked.
The dates are always set back to the current date and time.

What am I missing here?
