Enchanting, one of the many tradeskills available in World of
Warcraft, may also be one of the best, depending on your current
situation. Enchanting gives you the ability to turn practically
useless items into at least a skill gain if not a valuable product.
This is why I personally call it one of the more profitable
professions, despite its similarities to money-grinders like
blacksmithing and tinkering.
First of all, enchanting is easy to pick up on any new character you
may start; just use the useless magical/green items you pick up for
disenchanting and you should be gaining skill quite easily. Often
times, especially if you supply the new character with money from a
higher level, you will be able to reach the maximum skill level for
disenchanting by the time you have the cash to start really boosting
your enchanting skill.
Secondly, enchanting can make those very valuable materials that sell
for quite a bit on the auction house. Do you ever find a worthless
blue or high level green item? Just disenchant that useless item and
sell the resulting shard or dust. This is a very reliable method of
turning useless junk in just seconds into a profitable material you
can sell on the auction house.
One thing to know, however, is that once it reaches a certain level
your profits start coming from enchanting items, rather than
disenchanting them. Before you enter the enchanting profession do your
research and make sure your server possesses a good market. Some
servers actually have an over-abundance of enchanters, so I would
either recommend finding a different profession or joining a guild
willing to finance your enchanting skills.
Guilds love enchanters. Practically any guild will be lusting after
having at least one if not more guild-specialized enchanters. As a
guild enchanter you will get all the rare recipes dropping from
dungeons and the like. Just make sure the guild you are interested in
doesn't already have two or three enchanters.
Finally, even if you can't manage to get into a sweet-spot of
enchanting within a particular guild, you can always just do 5-10 man
dungeon runs and offer to disenchant everything nobody needs. Most
groups want to roll on the resulting materials, but even then you have
a good chance of getting at least something in the way of a profit in
this manner.
Good luck prospective enchanters! May you find many magical items to
disenchant or keep in your
wanderings.
