Diana's Redwoods Memorial in CA

This is a message from Scott Thornton regarding Diana’s CA memorial. All are welcome to ride and attend.

The time of Diana’s Redwood Memorial is rapidly approaching. Christian and I will be departing Ohio on Saturday, October 2, via motorcycles for California. We are figuring 5 – 6 days travel time, with arrival in the Mendocino area on or about Friday, October 8^th. We will stay overnight somewhere in the Albion, Little River, Mendocino area, probably through Sunday night, then depart for Idaho on Monday, the 11^th of October. Diana will be riding with me on my new GL1800 (which she made me promise to buy!).

 

We’re planning on scattering Diana’s ashes in the Navarro River Redwoods State Park, along California Route 128 between the small city of Navarro and the Pacific Coast, on Saturday, October 9^th. There is one special grove that I will locate precisely once on site. We will establish a meeting point either at that site, or nearby and lead a ride to the side. (If you are driving a car, you’re still welcome, of course, and can follow the bikers.) There will not be any “services” in the Redwoods. There are, in fact, no firm plans other than to gather together, verbally and silently honor Diana’s presence and her final wishes, and then carefully and respectfully scatter and bury her ashes with one of her best friend for many years, my sister Jean whose ashes were scattered in the same place in 1997. For those who may wish to speak, you will be afforded that chance.

 

NOTE: If you would like some of Diana’s ashes, YOU MUST LET ME KNOW ASAP.

 

After the redwoods experience, we will travel to the Pacific Ocean where the final scattering will take place that same day. For those remaining in the area overnight, we will sponsor a dinner in Mendocino Saturday night, courtesy of Diana! Obviously we need a count for that event, so you will need to let me know if you are coming, how many, and how long/where you are staying.

 

For those interested, or who may want to join us for part of the trip, we will be traveling on I-70 across the mid-west, then I-80 through the Rockies, entering the San Francisco Bay area through Vallejo, then across San Pedro Bay to US 101, then up to CA 128 (Cloverdale), then through the Anderson Valley. For motorcyclists in CA, you probably know SR 128 as one of the best in the Northern part of the state! For cars, it’s a bit twisty and challenging, but perfectly drivable and safe.
