Hiding items?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I've looked around and can't
seem to find an answer. I'd like to be able to hide bars and/or
categories. I know there is a Show Hidden option, which implies that
there is a way to hide things. For example, it would be nice to hide
all of the empty bag slots, or soul shards.

Is there a way to do this?

go into edit mode
click on a bar number
menu down until you see the actual category (in green text)
take the next menu
chose hide (text will go red)
