Wondering if there's a possibility yet for the homepage to show each genre of movies with a random selected movies and some latest movies? I have been bouncing between plex and emby trying to find the best suit for me. I have a lot of movies. This option would be the best because then some of my older movies would get the dust dusted from them and actually watched now and again.

Yes and no. Couldn't find it when I searched, I think might we suggest s a good idea as well. But I implementing it in the home screen sections is the best options. And giving more drop down options like random, and genre based etc. I could create a little graphic for what I mean a little later

Really like to see something done with this, too many movies are hidden deep within the archives of my database. I'd like to fulfill this even if it's a plugin where we have can have options for genre categories and randomly select nth movies. Or top movies you haven't watched etc. Is it possible to write a plugin like that to manipulate the homepage? I won't hesitate to try writing it I have knowledge in c languages

I would agree on more dynamic on home screen. Just assume one wants to have a definite library (no new content) which is quite large. If apart from continue watching home screen always shows only latest added items (as it is now) it is not only useless but annoying. Appearing random items, collections, persons and playlists would be great.

I know this is an old thread, but this is something I would love to see implemented as well. I have a substantial collection of Movies and TV, and this would help myself, my family, and friends to pick something to watch without endless scrolling, to see if something catches the eye.

I just bought the 4th generation Apple TV to replace my old Apple TV. I primarily use the Netflix app and noticed that on the new Apple TV you cannot filter by genres when searching on Netflix like you used to be able to on the old apple TV's Netflix app. Has anyone else noticed this? It is very frustrating to use when compared to the old Apple TV app as in the old apple tv's netflix app you could select a genre category and view all the movies in it. However, in the new apple tv's netflix app a few movies are displays for all the genres and you have to scroll up and down to get to your genre.

Just replaced 3rd generation Apple tv with 4th generation and the Netflix app feels like a really bad downgrade. Not only are genres gone, but half the screen is taken up by a picture leaving basically one row of like 5 movies in view. Way to much scrolling. I know you can use siri to find a movie by title. But most often I find movies just by browsing. Apple should just replace Netflix app with their own. Apples was good. I liked Apple TV 3 consistent interface between apps. Seems like this is no longer going to be the case.

You can put the secret Netflix menu to work to get full control over what kind of content you devour. It's all dependent on a code-based system. Different numeric codes on the service let you browse and select from thousands of niche genres and subcategories, whether you're into horror or rom-coms.

Typically, you're constrained to the genres available to you via the main Netflix menu. There's no way to choose by specific category other than what's been chosen for you when you log on. Using these codes opens up an entire library of options for you to choose from that can help you better settle on what to watch for the night. It can even help you discover new shows and movies you've never heard of.

Adding these codes to the ends of Netflix URLs lets you directly access collections of movies and TV shows that fall under your chosen category. For example, if you're short on time and want to queue up a shorter movie, you could check the 90-Minute Movies category with the code 81466194. Looking for something for your entire brood to enjoy? The "Family Movie Night" collection, accessed with code 2013975, is chock-full of favorites even Grandma can get into.

There are well over 36,000 codes to choose from, so don't worry about memorizing them or trying random sequences. Resources like Netflix-Codes.com have an entire directory to sift through, so you can search for what you'd like to watch there and find corresponding codes in no time.

Netflix-Codes.com has a comprehensive list of the streaming platform's hidden genre categories and subcategories. In total, there are around 20 top-level categories covering genres like animation, foreign films and classic movies. Within those main genres are many more hyper-specific subgenres denoted by numeric codes.

The entirety of the categories available on Netflix starts with broad main genres like Action, Comedy and Drama, but they get more specific as you dive even deeper. There are straight-to-the-point collections like Movies Directed by Women (code 2974953), or more specifically targeted curated lists, like Supernatural Soaps (code 81238162), just in case you like your werewolves with a side of angst and romance.

Are you a huge Swiftie? Is there another celebrity you want to learn more about? The Pop Culture Icons category (code 81278963) includes picks like the Taylor Swift-centric documentary Miss Americana or the Whitney Houston biopic I Wanna Dance with Somebody.

Maybe you've been told time and time again that you should really get into Korean TV and don't know where to start. Hit up the K-Dramas for Beginners menu (code 2953105) for a selection of hit K-Drama series like Squid Game and Boys Over Flowers.

Rather than relying solely on the standard homepage categories or Netflix's algorithm, you can use these secret codes to pinpoint and explore different nooks and crannies of the catalog to find hidden gems.

If you're not comfortable with editing Netflix URLs, you can use a browser extension to access the secret menus. The Better Browse for Netflix extension for Chrome is a great choice. Here's how to use it:

If the extension is installed, you'll see a Browse All option at the top of your Netflix home screen next to My List. Click it to scroll through the subgenres or to search through specific categories.

Alternatively, you can use the FindFlix: Netflix Secret Category Finder browser extension for Chrome or Firefox. This add-on will create a drop-down menu complete with Netflix categories for your browser that you can scroll through by clicking on the FF icon that will appear on the top right of your screen. There's no need to scroll Netflix natively with this add-on, and it features 7,500 categories alphabetized for your convenience.

4. If you're on a device that has the Netflix app installed, the app should open and take you directly to the genre or subgenre you chose. If you don't have the app installed, it'll open Netflix through the browser and you can view the specific movies and shows available.

Fantasy monsters are often modeled on ethnic stereotypes. Think of the features of the Wicked Witch, the hooked nose, the black curls, all classically non-white features. Fantasy more often than not sets itself in Medieval Europe, a place that, if we are going by the TV and film depictions, apparently had no Black people in it, despite the fact that much of classical Medieval art would tell us differently.

Which brings us to Game of Thrones. I am willing to bet that after the failure of its final season, no one was hoping for Cursed to be Game of Thrones, it could not be more obvious in fact, that Cursed was not even trying to be like Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones is a grey and brown colored death march that likes to trick its viewers for no plot relevant reason and treats its women like garbage at the expense of some of its finest actors. And guess what? Until the final season, I actually liked Game of Thrones.

But I digress. From the brutal death of Missandei (the only Black female character), to the pointless torture of Loras (a gay character), to the senseless character assassination of Daenarys and the infamous Sansa rape scene, Game of Thrones is a catalogue of all the ways in which the fantasy genre time and time again refuses to treat its minority characters with the slightest modicum of respect.

Unlike Game of Thrones, The Witcher has a female main character named Yennefer who is also a BIPOC (yay!). But Yennefer is mostly shown half naked, tortured, and is by the end relegated to whining about infertility issues and the way it impacts her identity as a woman (no!!). At the beginning of the show we are also introduced to another badass female character named Renfri who is a former princess turned warrior out for revenge against the man who raped her. She is called a monster and then is quickly killed off and never spoken about for the remainder of the show.

Which brings us right back to Cursed. No, Cursed is nothing like Game of Thrones. First of all, unlike Game of Thrones, Cursed is a psychedelic, brightly colored world, painted in rich greens and blues. Its leading man, Arthur, far from being the typical brooding bad boy love interest, is a sweet, honorable man who is quick to crack a joke and just as quick to offer comfort. The sex on the show happens off screen and includes scenes of enthusiastic consent. Not a single woman wears a skimpy costume.

Netflix Film is undergoing its first major organizational change under the leadership of new chairman Dan Lin, with a restructure that puts four genre-based portfolios under the oversight of four existing movie team executives whose titles are not expected to change.

Family films will fall now under the purview of Kira Goldberg, who is also overseeing dramas and thrillers. Goldberg is one of two original studio film VPs still at Netflix (the other being Ori Marmur), and she has overseen four-quadrant films such as Yes Day (2021) since joining the streamer in 2020.

VP Niija Kuykendall will oversee faith-based, YA and holiday flicks; rom-coms and comedies have landed with director Jason Young; and Marmur is now responsible for action, fantasy, horror and sci-fi movies. As part of the reorg, there will reportedly be some departures from the film team, with the number of roles affected pegged at about a dozen.
