I have a friend whose brother is dying from cancer and isn't expected to live much longer. My friend is a guitar player and wants to play acoustic guitar and sing a song for his brother at the funeral.  He's asked me for suggestions.  I've come up with a few, but I thought I would ask here for others.

Vince Gill’s “Go Rest High On That Mountain” is always a good one. And I’ve always liked Jim Cowan’s “When It’s All Been Said And Done”.

You can't beat "Be not afraid", "On Eagle's Wings" and "And I will raise them up".  Best songs the Catholics ever wrote.

“Homesick” and “I Can Only Imagine” by MercyMe.  I often pair them together.

You might consider Chris Tomlin’s song “I Will Rise”. Not a direct hit, but it might work. Here’s a video I made for the song:

Here are some easy Black spirituals that will work:

Give Me Jesus
Going Home
I Want to Be Ready
Rock-a My Soul in the Bosom of Abraham
Swing Down Sweet Chariot (stop and let me ride)
Swing Low, Sweet Chariot
There Is a Balm in Gilead

And my favorite Catholic charismatic favorite from the seventies:

I Am the Resurrection and the Life

You can also have congregational participation on any of these--
most folks appreciate the opportunity to sing along and get
involved, and I can tell you from experience that an uplifting
song at a funeral/homegoing celebration really helps the mourners
focus on Heaven as "home", even in the midst of sorrow.

I have always held that funerals are really for the living.  As for me, at my funeral i would hope that this would be played:

Your Faithfulness, by Brian Doerksen.
