My church had been running Prologue SundayPlus for years. But the company that produced it, Grass Roots Software, went out of business. So, we decided to switch to ProPresenter from Renewed Vision. We also bought a new computer, since our old one died. The new computer is running Windows 8. We also purchased version 5 of ProPresenter. Well, the two don’t play well together. Things go along merrily for a while, but eventually when we click on a slide nothing happens. The application does not freeze, it just refuses to send the output to the projector. Stuck, not frozen. We have observed this behavior on multiple computers.

According to the vendor, the problem has to do with Microsoft .Net Framework 4.5. We tried to drop back to Framework 4.0, but Windows would not allow it.

Does anyone else have any experiences they can share with a Windows 8/ProPresenter5/.Net Framework 4.5 environment? Is anyone running successfully in this environment? I know this is a shot in the dark, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. The vendor seems to be sort of lost here, and we’d like to provide them with as many data points as we can. We need to get this fixed. We have discovered that everything seems to work fine under Windows 7/Framework 4.0, so for the time being we have yanked the Windows 8 hard drive and stuffed in a Windows 7 hard drive.

I like the program, by the way. But if it can’t talk to my projector it’s sort of useless.

Bob - in my years of working in the audio production/music field, by far, (no exaggeration) the platform choice is Mac. While this doesn't probably help you today...considering a change will in the long run.  The architecture is just better at multi-media.  I've been around a lot of pro guys, and the past year, dozens.  Out of all of them, no one had a Windows device. All Mac, Powerbook and the like.

But back to your point.  You've done correctly by going back to earlier versions...and regardless of platform, beware of ever jumping on the newest OS when using media software. Wait until at lease v.2 or 3 to let everyone work out the bugs.

Points well taken. However, until recently there was only one projection software product available for the Mac. I think it was called LiveWorship. That has changed in the past few years, and now there are more choices. I have used both Mac and Windows, and I agree, Mac seems to be more stable. However, my experience is different from yours; I know lots of churches that are using Windows.

Yes, I never like to use a .0 version for any software. But, when you buy a new computer, you don’t have much choice. You get what they give you. We want to go back to Windows 7, so we had to shell out $100.

Thanks for your advice. It was helpful.

I think you hit it. Churches vs the pro world.  Not trying to over-generalize, or diminish one's choice over another - however I think it may be an example of how decisions are different based on the environment.

I wish you success on your troubleshooting!

Blessings

Frank
