library: curl is powered by libcurl - a cross-platform library with a stable API that can be used by each and everyone. This difference is major since it creates a completely different attitude on how to do things internally. It is also slightly harder to make a library than a "mere" command line tool.
pipes: curl works more like the traditional Unix cat command, it sends more stuff to stdout, and reads more from stdin in a "everything is a pipe" manner. Wget is more like cp, using the same analogue.
Single shot: curl is basically made to do single-shot transfers of data. It transfers just the URLs that the user specifies, and does not contain any recursive downloading logic nor any sort of HTML parser.
More portable: curl builds and runs on lots of more platforms than wget. For example: OS/400, TPF and other more "exotic" platforms that aren't straight-forward Unix clones. curl requires but a C89 compiler.
curl supports HTTP/0.9, HTTP/1.0, HTTP/1.1, HTTP/2 and HTTP/3 to the server and HTTP/1 and HTTP/2 to proxies. wget supports 1.0 and 1.1 and only HTTP/1 to proxies.
Much more developer activity. While this can be debated, I consider three metrics here: mailing list activity, source code commit frequency and release frequency. Anyone following these two projects can see that the curl project has a lot higher pace in all these areas, and it has been so for 15+ years. Compare on openhub.
Recursive!: Wget's major strong side compared to curl is its ability to download recursively, or even just download everything that is referred to from a remote resource, be it a HTML page or a FTP directory listing.
GNU: Wget is part of the GNU project and all copyrights are assigned to FSF. The curl project is entirely stand-alone and independent with no organization parenting at all with almost all copyrights owned by Daniel.

curl www.target-url.com -c cookie.txt then will save a file named cookie.txt. But you need to log in, so need to use --data with arguments like: curl -X --data "var1=1&var2=2" www.target-url.com/login.php -c cookie.txt.Once you get loggued cookie you can send it with: curl www.target-url.com/?user-page.php -b cookie.txt

The blog post Wget with Firefox Cookies shows how to access the sqlite data file in which Firefox stores its cookies. That way one doesn't need to manually export the cookies for use with wget. A comment suggests that it doesn't work with session cookies, but it worked fine for the sites I tried it with.

The *nix commands curl and wget are useful for accessing URLs without resorting to a browser. Both commands allow you to transfer data from a network server, with curl being the more robust of the two. You could use either of them to automate downloads from various servers.
As mentioned, the curl command allows you to transfer data from a network server, but it also enables you to move data to a network server. In addition to HTTP, you can use other protocols, including HTTPS, FTP, POP3, SMTP, and Telnet. Administrators commonly rely on curl to interact with APIs using the DELETE, GET, POST, and PUT methods, as explained here.
The --connect-timeout option sets the maximum time in seconds that curl can use to make its connection to the remote server. This option is handy to prevent the connection from terminating too quickly, and to minimize the amount of time you want the command to attempt the connection.
This option allows you to list DNS servers curl should use instead of the system default. This list can be handy when troubleshooting DNS issues or if you need to resolve an address against a specific nameserver.
You can specifically tell curl to use the http3 protocol to connect to the host and port provided with a https URL. --http2 and --http1.1 function in the same way and can be used to verify a webserver.
Like with HTTP, you can specifically tell curl to use a specific SSL option for the command to connect to and in this case we are specifying version 2. --ssl specifies SSL needs to be used and --sslv3 specifies SSL version 3. Note: sslv2 and sslv3 are considered legacy by the maintainer though still available.

On the Windows platform, when I click this link (which looks like this ), it takes me to a Dropbox Transfer web page in my internet browser. There the address bar shows a totally different address. It looks like this " ". At the center of the window, I see a box-like in the image below. After I click the download symbol (downward facing arrow with a bar below it), the download starts with a ZIP file format. If I click the copy link button in the top right corner, I get the first link back. So this is just taking me in a vicious circle. I cannot peek into the folder for downloading individual files using the wget command.

connect with a proxy or vpn and then test the curl in command line.
or use the "-1" or "-3" option with curl command and see if this fixes it.
Note that wget has a default timeout of 900 seconds (15 minutes) and so if the request is complex, it's possible that it may timeout. In this case, it's safer to use an asynchronous request as detailed below.

You should find the file location before the question mark in the path. You can then download from this link on any machine with wget, curl, or my favorite, HTTPie. This should work for basically any download on NVIDIA Developer and is very useful if you need to install to a headless machine.
We do not transmit or record the curl commands you enter or what they're converted to. This is a static website (hosted on GitHub Pages) and the conversion happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript.
I'm trying to build a new server with wildfly 9.02 but I can't download wildfly using wget or curl. Either tool returns an error that the connection is refused but if I put the same URL into a browser window on my desktop it downloads the file just fine. Since I have no browser on the server, it would be very helpful if I could download directly rather than have to create a mount to a fileshare somewhere to get the file. This is for a Teiid server and the Teiid download worked just fine with wget.
I've actually worked around the issue with a mount to a file share but I am trying to create a script that will build additional servers for me so I'd like to resolve the wget or curl question. Is there a better way to get the downloads?
I ran into similar problem couple of days ago when i started to deploy my containers into new VM environment. I have docker swarm running, user defined docker overlay network and containers attached to that network. And by some strange reason containers failed to communicate with SOME of the servers in outside world. Most of the curl/wget requests worked fine, but with some specific servers they failed ( for example). They did reach connected status and after that just hung there. Curl on host machine worked just fine. Same containers and swarm setup on my local machine and on AWS worked just fine. But in this new VM it did not.
