Hey hey people!!

We held the second Ararat's hangout on Monday.  Although it was less crowded that the first one, it was pretty useful to get to know Eudald and Ferran (both missing in the first one) and talk to Taylan about the plenty of tasks he's dealing with.

I tried to briefly summarize the important topics discussed, read them as there are some actions required! ;)

1. Guide. Taylan is already contacting the official guide of the expedition. As he mentioned 3 Turkish alpinists will join us (one of them being a professional mountain guide). They will join us as a "collaborators" and won't represent and extra cost for the expedition!!! Uee!! Taylan is also arranging accommodation in Dogubayazit (I swear you I'll manage to say this properly one day..) and the transfers.

2. Food. Taylan gonna contact a friend in Van to help Oriol Parera buying the food there on saturday. Shopping list needed!!! Maria and Eudald were already in charge of this!

3. Material. Parera and Eudald already created an exhaustive list, Everyone's got it???. Check it to solve questions regarding proper equipment and see if you have it all. Contact them for further

4. Tourist Plan. Ferran created and awesome google map (I guess he'll imported to google earth soon and fly over the route;).  It is a collaborative map so you have to insert a waypoint (blue balloon) any place you'll like to visit!! Then we'll create the route!! Great coop-working idea Ferran!

5. Blog. To impress more our potential sponsors and to share it with our family/friends... I started a proper Expedition Blog. I will send the link soon... but I ask you to send me a picture of yourself and one sentence to caption it/yourself. Whatever crazy thing gonna be allright! Hurry up, Jonathan already did it! ;)

6. Insurance. Catalan people should already book the insurance we found (lonely planet). Turkish/German... should see how much are they covered...

7. Sponsors. A bandana's (Johnathan's name) company (BUFF) is considering us for an sponsorship.. (just some free Bandanas). We don't know if they'll finally accept it.. but we'll go for the expedition's bandanas anyway! ;) (Taylan could your friend correct the sentence in the logo?? Lets->Let's ??) Thanks!

7. Medical kid. Maria already provided us with a super medical kid list for the expedition so we are prepared for any event. Besides, I got offered a meeting with a Doctor specialized in altitude medicine and alpine first aid (teaches a course on this topic in the University) so I'll try to learn from him as much as possible and share the knowledge. ;)

8. Trainings. Planning soon the left trainings with people in Catalunya.

That's all folks!!!

See you sooon!

Hey all!

A) Regarding the insurance, I've asked whether the one that Oriol proposed would cover the expedition. In the beginning it seemed so, but when you look at what's covered they say (link if someone wanna check):

- Covered with the Standard insurance: Hiking up to 6,000 metres
- But: Mountaineering * (no cover for this sport for purchases or extensions on or after 1 February 2012) (2)

So, if anybody knows whether we are hiking or mountaineering, we'll solved the question. If not, we have to wait for their answer (I asked it on Saturday).

B) As for the Buff, I'm also waiting for a response.

C) BTW! Remember to fill in the Equipment & Gear document!

See you soon!
Regards and hugs for everybody!

Xavier

Hi Xavier,

Thanks for your message and apologies for not getting back to you sooner.

You’re automatically covered on both the Standard and Explorer plans to trek up to 6000 metres.

If you are unfortunate enough to have an accident and hurt yourself while climbing Mt Ararat, we’ll cover:

• evacuation if it’s urgent and medically necessary (by the most appropriate means including helicopter when necessary and available*);

• medical expenses, for treatment at the hospital or local medical centre; and/or

• repatriation home if you’re seriously ill or injured and unable to continue your trip.

*Please note: Evacuation will only be necessary for urgent medical attention. This is determined by our own medical consultant working with our emergency assistance team in consultation with you and your treating doctor. For example: it may not be considered necessary to send a helicopter if you’re able to reach the nearest medical facility yourself; you can rest up where you are; or if bad weather prevents a helicopter from flying and it’s faster to descend with your guide/porter’s help. It will really depend on what’s happened to you, so that’s where our assistance team can help.

What you need to know:

While trekking, make sure you keep track of local weather conditions, take all safety precautions and follow the advice given by local authorities. If you’re not taking a guide, you should notify local authorities of your chosen route, expected arrival times and give them your name, policy number and our assistance team’s contact details (all from your Certificate of Insurance) in case you need help.

What to do if something goes wrong:

If something happens to you, make sure you (or someone else) contact our assistance team as soon as possible. If medically necessary and urgent, they can arrange your evacuation to the nearest, most appropriate medical facility. If a guide or tour operator wants to arrange your evacuation, please get them to contact our assistance team first to guarantee cover. Please be aware your cover may be limited if our assistance team are not contacted.

Thanks for considering travel insurance from WorldNomads.com. Please do let me know if you have any further questions.

Kind regards,

Hiking 5137 m

Good morning, with a group of friend we are going to climb Mount Ararat (5137 m) in Turkey. The climbing will be in summer and it is not technical at all. We were wondering whether the "Hiking up to 6,000 metres" option fits our needs. Thank you.

OUOUOOU

somehow I missed this mail out!!! Great news!!!
Thank you Xavier!!
Let's go ahead with this and book the insurance for the members that need it!!!

Taylan, regarding mules. Can you ask the guide how many kg can each mule carry?? That's the key. We need the mules basically to carry the food and the tents.. each expedition member will have to carry his/her own gear (<<15kg). Can you comment this to the guide? Then, once we know the kg/mule we can count how many mules do we need.. but I suspect gonna be about 3...

Can you also ask him about the harnesses.. I propose him to use a flat sling and a carbine instead (to lighten weight). I'm still wondering why do we need it...

Catalan people, I will come back to you soon regarding details for 13-14 training hike. However, book now the 17th (wednesday afternoon) to perform a general meeting to inspect material an so (we need to set up the tents for example...).

Big big hug!!

Oriol,

PD: Send us a nice pic and a sentence.. the web is almost ready!!!

Hey all!

Yes, thank you Xavier! Reading the answer it seems that insurance covers what we need! :)

I have some questions:

- We go ahead and we book the insurance here? www.WorldNomads.com
- How we finally do the booking for the insurance? Each one books his/her own?
- I have seen that we can use a promotional code, do you know if that's easy to get somewhere?
- Should we apply for the Standard or Explorer?

Thank you very much!! See you all soon!!

Hugs!

maria

Hey hey! THE day is coming! (and quite fast, btw).

Regarding Maria's questions:
- We go ahead and we book the insurance here? www.WorldNomads.com
yes.
- How we finally do the booking for the insurance? Each one books his/her own?
I think the best option is each one books his/her own.
- I have seen that we can use a promotional code, do you know if that's easy to get somewhere?
As for the promotional codes, I've been told that we can find them on internet quite easily.
- Should we apply for the Standard or Explorer?
The Standard one already fullfills our needs. However you can look at the differences and asses if they are worthwhile. In my case, I think I'll take the Explorer as it also covers the "excess on your rental vehicle insurance, so if we rent one for the days after the Ararat it can be useful (and the Explorer option is not much more expensive).

As for Oriol's concerns, it's really good that Catalans can meet before going to set up everything (with Eloi and Joan, we've been discussing about how we carry the tents and the other common material for the flight, extra baggage?).
And OK for the webpage, I'm late, I know.

Finally, the Buffs will be ordered at the last moment. I talked to the responsible and they still don't know whether they will "sponsor" us or not, but in anyway we'll be able to buy them with our logo.

Well, well, talk to you soon! Hugs!
Xavier

hey! I agree with oriol for the mules! and the meeting is written down in my calendar!
We can meet on 17th at home, in barcelona, there's enough space if we need to set up the tents, if you have already though about another place it's great!

and I think we have to talk about common basic material (not mountaneereing bat simple staff we don't need to carry 13 times...)

for the insurance, I have the FEEC one... I think it doesn't cover the travel by plane (baggage and everything)... but i think it will be enough...!!

Have a nice week!!!!
mari

Hey,

just a questions. I am not sure how you guys planned it with the tents.

I have 1 1-person tent. Its not mentioned under collectives so...

Should I bring it for me or do we just use multiple persons tents? If so, dibs on somebody who does not snore :)

What about Biwaki??? Should I bring mine?

I also took pictures of the lonely planet turkey about doughazet (however you write that).

Best,

Jonathan

About the tents, we are going to carry 3 tents of 4p and 3 more of 2p.
If the weather allows us, were doing bivouac for sure! (if you want)

I change my flight so I'll fly with you guys from IST to VAN the 21th. But Saturday I'll arrive around 10:30 in the morning, when will you be there?
