Hey hey there!

We stepped into the critical phase of our project: TWO MONTH TO GO!!!!
There is no time to waste now and there are plenty of things to be done...
We are expecting the climbing permit this week... (Taylan I need you to push them... If there is any problem and we have to ask for it again we are running out of time..).
We gonna start meeting with task responsible to seriously deal with preparation. (check if you haven't been involved with any task yet!!)
Besides logistics, I've to say I'm not particularly proud of how training is going (I include myself).. It seems that the gages are broken... But they are not, I swear you! ;)
Two month is the limit to start training seriously... If we don't start now... It won't be worth trying lately.... So keep it in mind!!
And to address this... We launch the first Ararat's teaming up training!!! Next 1st Juin: Integral Cadí de sol a sol.

It is a long hike perfect for an endurance training while getting to know better each other. We may even have the chances to use crampons and ice axes which would be perfect regarding Ararat!!! (still snowing in Catalan's mountains)
So if you are around and can make it answer this mail confirming the attendance and we will arrange the details with participants. Ferran kindly offered us house in Saldes, so the plan is sleeping there on friday! (and if anyone wants to extend the plan to sunday... there is a good proposal to hike/climb south face of pedraforca.

I attach the google earth hiking link

Big big hug!

Stay tuned, more coming soon!

Hey,

I think it would be nice if there is at least two people in every task
group; don't be afraid to add your name to any task. It's nice to
share the workload, and, most importantly, the responsibility. If
everybody can fill the task distribution by the end of the week, next
week we can start working. I have put my email to the commissions
where I am; if you can do the same we can start emailing each other
among the groups, so people don't get overspammed.

Oh, and I also think it would be nice if there is a couple of
"overseers", that are maybe not in a specific task group but get the
emails from everybody. I am thinking about someone with mountain
experience (Uris?) and a local. This is for two reasons, for example
in the food task there is Mari and I, and I don't know about Mari, but
I have absolutely no clue about what I might be able to purchase at
the town at the food of the mountain. I will do my research and come
up with a menu, but it would be nice if someone can check that if
getting the ingredients is feasible and so on. The second reason is
there are going to be overlaps between the commissions, and we don't
need to do the work twice.

In any case, I feel like I should be getting a lot more emails from
the Ararat people. So please, DON'T BE SHY. Just write your concerns
and thoughts when there is still time to address them!

See you soon!
Eudald

Hey!
Another mail form Ararat is coming!!
yesterday I had a meeting with oriol and we talked about some organisation points.
We propose you some decisions that should be agreed (so...answer!!!) and also some subjects to work on.
I completely agree with Eudald in all the points. More than 1 person per task is perfect, oversees will be useful and receiving lots of emails will be great! :)

so....regarding
  • Organisation:We proposed to be in groups of 4-5 people with completely autonomy (gas, food, tent...maps...)
  • Gas: we cannot transport it by plane. We should be sure that we can find compatible gas and that is not a cheat....
  • Water: we will use iodine in principle.
  • Temperature: We have not a good idea of what range of temperatures are we going to face. Deeper research on this point is necessary.
  • About the last 3 points, we think that it will be interesting to make contact with somebody that has already climbed the Ararat.  I found this Spanish group http://www.niphargus.net/Ararat.htm  maybe we can write them an email? I only know people that have climbed Ararat in winter..with the skis!!!!!!(wind will be our enemy...)
  • Material: Lot of material (Alpine tents, crampons...) could be borrowed from a mountain association from Lyon. Logistics of taking the material (a priory Xavier can do that) and giving it back (guys who are going to the alps after Ararat?) should be planned.
  • Logo... come on!!!!!!!!!!!! I propose to do a team buff... easy... cheap.. useful, what do you think??
  • Sponsors: we are late, but I'm working on it anyway... I'll need some help... for example planning a budget... we can talk about that next Friday...! (I want free kit kat!!!! :)

I'm forgetting things but I wait for a feed back after continuing...!!!

See you soon!!

Mari

Hi all,

I still haven't put myself to any task (sorry!), I'll try to decide on it soon!
However I would propose that, since many of us will be around Barcelona for the next two weeks, maybe we could arrange some kind of meeting at any time/day to just meet, talk, detail and distribute the tasks listed, I think this could simplify a lot all the work&effort to do through googlegroups!!!

The best day for this kind of "startup meeting" could be the evening before the Cadí end-to-end excursion in saldes, but since we still don't know how many of us will be attending, maybe we could just look for a suitable time during the week... my quick guess is that at least 6 of us will be wandering around Palau Reial (Oriol Rierol, Xavier TinyHole, Joan McAtcher, Eloi Mainville, Mari?, ..., and me), so apparently it should be easy!!

What do you think??

Cheers,

Ferran

Hey!
nice to receive some mails from you! :-) And first of all I agree with all the comments.

Regarding the Catalan meeting during the next two weeks, I agree with Ferran that it'll be much easier to distribute the tasks and discuss several issues than via email. Afterwards we'll send all we'll have discussed :)

As for the organisation, I propose to start a new thread of mails so that we won't mix everything (and it'll be easier to find in the future). I think I've summarised all we've said here in the mail which you're about to receive.

Btw, I'll join the Cadí expedition! :P

Regards and hugs!

Hey all!!

Thanks for your emails! Yep! You are totally right! Two months to go!!! Uauu! Exciting! I also agree with your ideas and also agree that there are many things to get ready!!

I would love to come to Cadi, but since Copenhagen is quite far... I won't be able to join! :(

I also won't be able to join any of your meetings that you will have next weeks... So, that is why I have though that the best task I could do is something not totally related with the summit because I imagine that is better to organize it when you meet together.

So, apart from the paramedic responsible I can be with Ferran the tourist organizer.

New ideas/questions:

- Calendar: I think we should make a calendar where everyone writes down when arrives and leaves (also timming and from where) so we know for how long every person stays. I think the ones that stay longer stay until the 3rd of August but also I'm not sure when the people have the flights back from Van-Istambul. It can also be update when some mountain-tourist plans are known! and also the organizing-meetings!!

- Maybe in the tourist days section we could be 3 people because if we supose to finish the summit maximum late the 27th, then it's almost one week to be organized with tourist activities!

- About the logistic section I think that apart from the locals (as you write Xavier) at least one of us should be responsible of that.
Because we are 13 people to have accomodation but not all of us arrive at the same day-time... And also we have to be sure how to move around there with all the mountain material. From Van until the place to start the summit!! And also maybe think were to put the material after the summit or if the ones that come back earlier take some already with them...
Some logistics are needed for sure! :) But I agree that making groups of 4-5 people is a good and efficient idea!

- Taylan, I have some questions! We will carry down the sand with worms from Ararat and then we should bring that straight away to the university? Or where we suppose to put it? Somewhere close to Van or in Istambul? I imagine that you will need help to bring all that? Or you are planning to fly back with someone? Will you stay with us for the tourism? Because some of us have the flight back Van-Istambul the 31th... I think it can be interesting to explore the zone around Van and close to the border of Armenia before going back to Istambul! It should be a nice remote place! :)

See you!!! Hugs!

maria

uououou!!!!

I am overwhelmed for such quantity of mails!! GREAT!!!!

I would like to inform you that today is TWO Ararat expedition members birthday!!!!  Oriol Parera and Mari!!!! (almost the youngest and the oldest of the expedition!!) Great coincidence!!!

Plenty of good ideas/thought/concerns have been mentioned... I'll put them in Xavier's thread! I can take the role of a oversee to bridge commissions and countries!

Definitely first face-to-face Ararat meeting will be held next Friday in Saldes (I'm wondering now.. is there internet Ferran? maybe we can say hi to the people that can't make it.. ;). We will write down the ideas and all the topics we'll discuss about and share it.

As for next joining the hike trip I count (Joan, Ferran, Xavier, Eloi, Mari, Oriol Parera, Bernat, Oriol Rios... anyone missing?).. we'll start a new thread with these people for logistic details)

Great great to hear from you all!! That's a good dose of motivational energy!!

Keep it up!!
Oriol,

PD: Jajajaj great Ferran.. Xavier TinyHole & co.... jajaj yesss!!!

Hey everyone!

Sorry, I had no task assigned since today. I’m probably a bit late…

I joined the task “tourist days organizer”, in which we are three people now. Members of the task group, we keep in touch!

Regarding the organization during the climb, the water availability, and some other important issues that we have already commented about, we will probably better arrange it by talking face to face in the forthcoming Friday’s meeting.

See you all very soon,

Joan

By the way, happy birthday Oriol and Mari!

Good News!

Finally after a long time waiting we got the permission from governorship!! It was quite difficult because we didnt present ourself with an official guide at that time, actually some of my friends from assembly of Ankara helped us for this :) (Seriously)

So now we also have a contact with the guys from a mounteneering organisations, as Oriol said we are in their  website and they took it as serious as we are. They will support us during our expedition by joining us with two members of them and a Official Guide!
The happiest thing about it that we dont have to pay a lot of money to guide and stuff...
This guys are actually our friends and just want to join us with their pleasure!

Sorry for my late responses it was because of those kind of things were in pending.

I m looking forward to hear good news from you and hope everything is going to be smooth!

Thanks for your patience and reliance!
See you tomorrow in hangout at 20.00

Hugs from Gent

Hey Guys!!
Some Great News

I apparently talked with the local guy finally that wee were suppose to help us in there and asked him our questions!

  • Well first of all this guy's uncle has a cheap hotel in there and we got a great offer for the first night(so that we dont have to find a house garden and we can rest before climbing) The prise is like 7-8 euro per night!!!

  • Secondly the guy talked with a person who has a minibus for our logistic from dogubeyazit to starting point. They will carry us up to 2200m (first point of climbing) and also the minibus will be there when we finish our crawling :) we have to pay a little money for it..
  • Regarding to carrying our stuff after 2200m we can hire mules till 3200 camping point but most of the mounteneers prefer to walk.

I have also ask about technical details water food gas etc.

  • Luckly we have natural water sources in 3200m camping point and 4200 camping point so we dont have to carry water up to there!

  • The gas cans can be found in Dogubeyazit, this guy will be there before us and can find and prepare for us. I think its a better option because if you bring them you can also have problems in the airport

  • Tents are optional, if you have like 2-3 people tents its ok, if you have camping tents its also good.
  • About food the guy said thta there is a supermarket in Dogubeyazit so we dont have to carry all the stuff from Van. I know Oriol you have already changed your flight and you will be in Van one day before but its still ok you will enjoy the city with a friend ( I found the body for you )
  • The temprature is really changable so that we need warm clothes in any cases.

So far all the news are like that guys :)

Hope it helps and enlighten you!!!

Un abrazo de Gent!

Taylan

Hi Taylan! You always came with great news! Nice!

Just some questions regarding your points.

- About buying food in Dogubeyazit: I'm not sure when will you arrive to Van, but are we going to have time to buy in Dogubeyazit the same day? Another thing, will the supermarket be open on Sunday? Concerning my flight, I can change it for free whenever I want, so I can arrive to Van Saturday or Sunday with you, no problem to any option.

- I think we just want the mules to carry extra stuff, not to ride them, because a maximum of 20kg per person will be reasonable. Maybe doing it without the mules we'll force us to climb the first stage to times... Will do some simulation about the weight.

Thank you for the organisation!

Görüşmek üzere!

Oriol P.

Great great great Taylan!! Good to hear so many go news.. indeed I needed my new sunglasses after your enlightening!!!

I love the minbus part!! Yesss!! That was my dream!! Drive (or be driven in) a minibus full of young crazy people with mountaineering stuff!!! Couldn't be better!! Just check the price is reasonable.. and I say let's go for it!!!!!

Oriol already pointed out the same bulletpoints I wanted to comment on! (is that because of our names?? ;) )). Indeed we want to walk and not ride the  mules!!!!!! ;) Although would be great (and essential) having them to base camp 3200m.
And I don't like the idea of buying the food in Dogubeyazit (if it is not already prepared by the guide/locals)... because arriving Saturday night is risky...  maybe the guide can send us "his" list and Oriol buy it in Van... Is just that I won't like to miss one day of climbing because of shopping... (always heated it!! ;)

And an extra thing (we knew it an Jonathan pointed it out..)! The flight from Istanbul to Van has just 15kg of allowed baggage.. I don't know how strict turkish airlines are, but we'll definitely exceed it......  I thought about adding several extra bags (which requires having the extra bags) but when I was checking the cost of it (couldn't find it) I discovered that the charge if you exceed the weight is of 1.5USD (3TL) per Kg!!!!!  uoou I was more used to Ryanair charges... so I guess we can afford it and will be even cheaper and easier than adding extra bags!!! NOoo???
http://www.turkishairlines.com/en-int/travel-information/baggage/domestic-international-flights-excess-baggage-fees-and-conditions

Great Taylan!! We are getting closer and closer to the summit!!! Good preparations guys!!  keep it up!!
