like it says in the title, after a while (usually 5-20 minutes of working in PS CS4 registered version) CTRL + Z keyboard shortcut stops working (instead of doing the usual UNDO it changes image to CMYK mode) as well as ALL OTHER KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS (for example bracket keys [ and ] dont increase/decrease brush size, they just dont do anything).

do you have foreign languages in use? It happended to me a couple of times. I'm using a german keyboard and german version of WIN and PS. There is a(windows) shortcut to change the language of the keybord. the "z" on the german keyboard is placed where the "y" is on the english keyboard and vice versa. I don't remember the windows shortcut for the change, I think it was "ctrl shift"

The problem was in the language options, to be more exact, in keyboard shortcut to switch between input languages in XP ALT + SHIFT which i was accidentally pressing thus changing from ENGLISH to CYRILLIC which caused Y and Z to change places, so when i pressed CTRL + Z it didnt redo, it changed between CMYK and RGB which is CTRL + Y shortcut's purpose, glad i finally solved this, it was bugging

Hot-keys can be touchy subjects, as many different programs map them differently. However, that said, Ctrl-Z has been a very common hot-key with Windows and Windows programs for some time now. I would find it highly unlikely that any Windows program nowadays would map it to anything else. Still, some programs are rather rogue, so it would not be impossible to imagine that something is re-mapping the key-combo, and maybe sometimes after you have started PS.

What I would also look into would be your memory/resources, and maybe their being filled up. PS offers the ability to Purge Memory. I'd try that, and see if things get back to normal. Obviously, you will lose that last Redo, in the process, but you should then be able to check things out, with the next Redo.

I am glad to see that I am not the only one that has the same trouble. The exact same thing happens to me and it can be very frustrating and you stated it never happens when you first start useing photoshop same here. Most times I have to reopen photoshop to right it but it then reverts back. I never had this trouble with CS3. I just like to add that I also have Elements 7 and the same thing happens so it must have something to do with adobe as I have no trouble with other photo software.

Thanks Miker, Have just tried that (I should have known that shortcut) butit did not work. It is not just the shortcuts not working, the adjustmentsdo not revert back when you have finished using them thy stick at the lastusage than after a time the shortcuts start working again. It's weird!

OK, the keyboard shortcuts are not working. What happens when you go to the History Palette and choose to Undo that way? Do you get the reversion to a previous state, like you should with the variations on Ctrl+Z? Might be more going on, than just the keyboard shortcuts.

Nikola, have you tried using a different keyboard with the computer? I usually wear out a keyboard after about 15-18 months of use (about the same amount of time as it takes for the letters/characters to be rubbed off the keys). More frequently used keys will wear out first - and it you do a lot of keyboard shortcutting, your ctrl key will be susceptible.

The problem was in the language options, to be more exact, in keyboard shortcut to switch between input languages in XP ALT + SHIFT which i was accidentally pressing thus changing from ENGLISH to CYRILLIC which caused Y and Z to change places, so when i pressed CTRL + Z it didnt redo, it changed between CMYK and RGB which is CTRL + Y shortcut's purpose, glad i finally solved this, it was bugging me for years.

Unfortunately I'm also looking for an answer for this. As soon as i started Adobe Design Premium CS5 for the first time, my Ctrl-Z won't work anymore. Probably I lost some other hot keys, but undo is what I use most. And nobody so far could give me a solution. Well... good luck for all of us.

I read this thread and finally solved it by going into the control panel > Regional and Language options > clicking the language tab > then clicking the details button. Once in this menu, on the bottom you will see a list of installed services. Remove all of the non US/English ones.

I've had the same problem for the longest time, it was driving me nuts! You guys are correct, I was pressing alt+shift which switched the languages and messed up my shortcuts. I disabled alt+shift in the windows control panel to solve this issue.

good for adobe, yes, stock price goes up, as it's a cloud stock, but not for the user. Time wasting, distracting, now we have a salesman embedded in a tool that is supposed to be for focused work only

Happened to me as well. Didnt even bother to try to understand why adobe painter decided to be in a different key system than windows, changed the shortcut to Ctrl + W and actually trying to forget 15 years of basic CGI reflexes not to lose half an hour fuguring out why my good ol CTRL+Z became hostile ...

For the old digital artist, you may not need this post. But you are a beginner, and my suggestion is you should understand the program before starting your artwork. Medibang Paint Pro is the tool. Understanding your tool will help you work faster. Let the program help you, not make you tired of it.

Now you have already downloaded Medibang Paint Pro to your desktop. Did you install it? Yes? Click on the icon to open it. You will see 2 windows appear on the screen.

The first one you see is the ads window. Well, just click OK or turn it off.

The next one is called Medibang Cloud Services window. Let's see what we can do with this.

1. Illustrate

You can quickly create a new file for drawing with this button

2. Draw manga

Click here to create a new file on the Medibang Cloud services. You can use Medibang Cloud for the Group feature (read more here if you want to know: "What is Group feature?"), or transferring data.

3. Open buttons

Quickly open the old files that you put somewhere on your computer and cloud

4. Submit work

This section is for uploading your work to the Medibang website. Choose the right things you want to upload for the right button.

5. Environment Settings

Click this to change the way Medibang works. This is another must-do before drawing. But let's talk about it in the next post!

6. Tutorial

Find more useful tutorials from other Medibang users on the Medibang website here

7. Language

You can change the language that appears on Medibang Paint Pro to your mother language. Example: You can change the language to Japanese if you are coming from Japan. Remember when you choose another language, the program needs to be re-open for change.

All the features and things you need to find when missing something will stay here. Just wandering around all those sections on the top menu if you need some filters/tools/... that have not appeared on the screen.

You need a brush, and an eraser to draw. Choose the right one from here and start your work. If you want to paint, choose the brush. If you want to erase something, choose the eraser. I will talk more about this in another post

3. Color window

4. Brush window

The brush section is the place you will visit a lot. You will pick the right brush for your painting. You can download more brushes from Medibang cloud or create one for your own. They will provide some default brushes at the beginning.

The full image of your opening canvas will be displayed in this window. It will be the best thumbnail to see the whole job you are working on. If you are trying to zoom in/out of the canvas, this Navigator window won't be affected. The only thing that changed in the Navigator window is the red frame. It shows exactly the place you are trying to zoom into the canvas. By moving the red frame, you can also move the area display in the canvas you are working on.

You've heard of it, you've been tempted to try it, but something's stopping you. Maybe you've asked it a question or two, maybe you're even using it on a regular basis. But you have not yet integrated it into your daily personal life and career. That, my friend, is a mistake. Let me explain.

Imagine I wanted to teach a calculator to talk. I give it a complex decision making tree to follow to build sentences, and then I feed it existing sentences to munch on and regurgitate (yes, this analogy will only get juicier).

The AI's job is to break up your sentence into 'tokens' and look around in its database of sentences for matching chunks, then predict the best combination of follow-up chunks from the X possible next things that could theoretically come after what you said.

You might be left thinking OOOH snap the human race is doomed, the machines have gained consciousness. But it's just a straight mashup of existing language the machine has been fed and barfed up again.

Sort of... hard to say. My dumber than dumbed down example above is literally billions of times simpler than what a hardcore AI like ChatGPT can do (we're on GPT4 at the time of writing, which contains 140 billion lines of language data). So what can a machine achieve with that much data?
