hello! i have done everything and it is really something to do with my system, i reckon - needs windows reinstall. so, downloaded Speccy as you said, installed on top of what was there and it turns up in CP etc. but does not work past BSOD as ever. uninstalled with Revo and cleaned traces. tried again - again it did not show up in CP, installed on top again - and it did show up. BSOD again. strange. i think it's to do with this system altogether, not Speccy. thank you so much for your time!
Reading more about that error message that you are getting then it may simply be a clash of the 2 applications trying to write to the same protected space.
It gets technical: -us/windows-hardware/drivers/pci/accessing-pci-device-configuration-space
It can be pretty common, and annoying, often it's only one or two apps who's windows get affected and the rest open as you want.
No one seems to know just what causes it, but it seems like the position/size parameters that Windows should save when you close an apps window get scrambled in an odd way and it can't fix it without help.
Windows sometimes just needs a shake to help it, so try the following:
If it's still not working then the 'FancyZones' utility in Microsoft PowerToys should do what you want by snapping/restricting Speccy's window to a custom zone.
-us/windows/powertoys/
-us/windows/powertoys/fancyzones
(That's probably a good utility to have for a dual monitor setup anyway).
I recently bought a Corsair kit of 2x 8GB DDR4 2666 Vengeance LPX memory (I bought it used) but in Windows it's only showing 8GB. When I go into the BIOS it shows 16GB, and in Speccy (a program for viewing all system specs in one place) it shows 16GB. I've built a lot of PC's from used parts so I have a lot of experience. I had a similar occurance once before, but that was DDR3 and the problem ended up being that I was using AMD-optimized RAM on an Intel system. In that case it was also showing up in the BIOS but not in Windows, and in speccy it was showing up but it was saying single channel, eventhough I installed it in dual channel. With my current issue it does say dual channel in Speccy.
I was going to provide a couple of links outlining people with similar issues, but instead just google it - there are hundreds and hundreds of similar complaints about the speeds reported on task manager for all versions of windows.
