If you live in the Lubbock area you are well aware that the South Plains Fair is wrapping up this weekend.  We have been very involved with LCU's booths this year as Roy is fully responsible for one of them.  Last night we were working the closing shift of one of them when a Police officer walked by and said, "Did you know there are fish out here?"  Someone had left the goldfish that they won on the ledge of our booth.  My immediate response was "Oh great, now I feel responsible!"  He laughed.  I then said, "Isn't there a law against people neglecting their pets?" He laughed again and said "Good luck with them!" as he walked away... To make a long story short - we now have two goldfish.  If you know me very well, you certainly know that I would not be willing to let them stay in the match box size container they came in even for the night.  Lucky for me, I have a super sweet husband - so upon leaving the fair at midnight after closing the booth, Roy took me to Walmart (thank goodness for the 24-hour superstore) to outfit our newly acquired pets.
I don't know what ever happened to simple goldfish bowls, but they didn't have one.  Although my only memory of a goldfish that I had while growing up was the way it jumped out of the bowl to its dry, crispy death... therefore, I wanted something with a lid anyway.  Now, I'm off to organize a campaign to prevent fairs/carnivals from giving living creatures as prizes!
