Well - after the surprise of actually receiving a blog from me, you are probably even more surprised by the title of this post. But he is, really! Just not the Raider that you are thinking of probably. He is a Mackenzie Middle School Raider football player - and quite proudly I might add!
At the night of his schools open house (meet the teacher night) his science teacher/coach paraded him through the hall showing him to all of the other coaches. They were quite impressed with his size, and discussed how excited they were to have him on their 7th grade team. I saw his chest and head swell at that moment and I don't think it's gone down yet.
It has been really good for him though and we are quite impressed with his coaches. Even though LISD passed a new dress code policy allowing mohawks, long hair, and whatever else good parents used to use as reasons to not allow their children to dress this way, the coaches don't allow it and still require their players to be clean-cut, shirts tucked in (no matter what they are wearing) and the whole nine yeards... I love it!
His first game was this past Monday night (and will be almost every Monday night through Nov. 1 - see the schedule
here; we would love for you to come if you're in the area!). Every game will be at a different field - this one was at Lowrey field and if you're familiar with Lubbock you know this is the largest field in Lubbock (with the exception of the other Raiders)... let's just say there were A LOT of empty seats! But the boys sure thought they were special - it may as well have been Cowboy stadium (well maybe not - but you get the point)!
Austin was selected as the starting Center for the A-Team. If you're trying to figure out which one he is the pics below, I'll give you a hint... RED SOCKS (in his defense, he thought the jersey was going to be red... at least he was easy to spot)!

Austin leading the team to warm ups just before the game started!

Centering the ball!

On 2nd string, he is the Strong-Side Lineman - as he says "I get to hit people!" But in all actuality, he tries really hard not to hit anyone - hence the "2nd string."

The final score was 32 to 6! Way to go Raiders!! Maybe this is a sign of what's to come for the other Raider team in town this weekend (vs. Texas if you haven't been paying attention). Roy and Bryce will be there in person to witness it if so!
Soon, I will take time to catch up on what the rest of the family is doing. Right now they are starving and sweet Roy just walked in with food - so I must join them! Enjoy your weekend!
