Subject: Information Request / FAO & IFAD Study on Innovations in Input Supply to Smallholders

EcoVentures International (EVI) is working on a joint study in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN  (FAO) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) that appraises innovative ways of supplying modern inputs to  smallholder farmers through commercial distribution systems.  The study is focused on Sub-Saharan Africa and targets project designers and policy makers.

As part of this study, EVI is collecting, assessing, and organizing case study material around good practices in input supply innovation. Innovation types may include product or service innovations, changes in distribution channels, targeted communications or outreach, financing, firm-level organization, as well as overall business model innovations.

Case studies will be assessed around a series of criteria including the type of innovation and business model employed, commercial viability, scalability, replicability, and social and environmental impact.  Ultimately, cases will be widely published by FAO and IFAD for use by all interested parties. Currently we are asking a number of researchers, policymakers, and
field-based practitioners to contribute leads and details around innovations you have studied or observed in practice.

If you can think of innovations in input supply to smallholders that should be researched further and considered for inclusion in this study, please take 5 minutes to complete this introductory form: http://goo.gl/iDGu0

If you’re not sure whether or not the initiative you have in mind qualifies as “innovative”, please just include it so it may be targeted for further research.  Please also forward this to any
colleagues or peers that you think may offer valuable input. All key informants will be recognized in the acknowledgments section of the final report.

Many thanks,
