Hello everyone,

I know we are gathering soon to discuss shared experiences and collect hints.

My issue is so specific to my class, I thought I would ask opinions electronically rather than use time during the mid-service meeting.

I am teaching three classes of girl’s PE once per week.

I will not award you extra points for observing that I am the least sports oriented nerd you ever met.

However, my school is short a teacher and I need to fill in.

Here is my situation.

I have done individual activities like hopscotch and jump rope and it went well.

I did “capture the flag” which is similar to a rather chaotic form of touch football.

It was ugly.. It was totally WWF RAW type ugly.

The girls became very competitive and almost brutally attacking the other team.

I expected them to draw blood.

Has anyone else experienced something similar in team sports here?

Is this behavior the norm?

Is it part of the culture in Namibia and I need to accept it?

Should competitive team games be avoided here?

Any comparison to your school situation would be appreciated.

Roger
