Hi all,

Today I had the central co-ordinator of the International Year
of Astronomy on the phone and he was very supportive of how
the IYA network can be called upon to assist WSW Education.

He invited me to make a specific (wish) list of actions which
he can assess wrt how IYA can be of help.

I will start with a very top-level, incomplete list of my ideas.
Throw in your suggestions please (by replying to this email).

1) If possible, mention us as a Global Event on:
www.astronomy2009.org/events/

2) Help us get in contact with Teachers through "wholesale" contacts

3) Understand how they interact with Organisational Nodes,
www.astronomy2009.org/organisation/nodes/organisational/
so that we start doing that too.

4) Come up with a good idea how all participants of IAY events
(millions of people) that have an interest in space (thousands?)
will know about WSW and get motivated to participate.

5) Help us get in contact with the right people at Media partners
www.astronomy2009.org/organisation/structure/partners/media/

6) Learn from IYA project management.

Btw Read and be inspired! From: www.astronomy2009.org/organisation/

IYA2009 will promote and facilitate the creation of international
networks to foster
a global appreciation of the role and value of science and astronomy
as a unifying
activity for humanity. IYA2009 will start up, connect and support
networks of
professional and amateur astronomers, educators and astrophysicists
from all over
the world, so that all these valuable sources of knowledge can be
shared. The
networks of hundreds, if not thousands of astronomical organisations,
nationally
and internationally, will be one of the legacies of IYA2009 that will
last far beyond
the year 2009.

The activities of IYA2009 are taking place largely at the national
level, but a significant
global network has already been created. This global network has
reached 137 countries
and a total of 140 are eventually expected to take part, making it
possible to reach out to
97% of the world's population.

Thanks for the offer Aga.

But don't worry, Pedro is a good friend of mine.
We are together in the IAF Admin Committee on
Space and Society for about two years now:
