Hi Everyone,

In response to Jim's post, I think this is something extremely important to utilise for the WSW Education.
Over the past six months myself and my colleagues in various parts of the UK involved in space education
have been contacted by teachers wanting to know what kind of events are happening over the year.

Many of these teachers are educators who have not previously engaged with the network of organisations and science centres
who offer space and astronomy type activities for education, there is definitely a rise in interest and all because of the
visibility of information that the IYA team have created.

I've found personallly that alot of the time it works both ways, teachers often come to find you, especially if they have a passion for teaching space and will try to find a local or national
organisation which can assist them with the information they are after, find a science centre to take their students to visit, find a website with useful resources which fits their
curricula needs, etc.

Some suggestions I'd like to throw in also,

Galileo Teacher Training and Universe Awareness are two IYA projects which both deal with space education. The coordinators for these projects are more than happy to help in anyway possible
as they are both aware of WSW. Both projects aim to build a network of educators for each project, which is growing for each group week by week.

As this year is the 40th anniversary of the first Moon landing, to perhaps organise an event that was similar to how 100 Hours of Astronomy was carried out and with a Moon theme?  100 Hours was a large event with everal simultaneous events taking place with a Sun day falling on Sunday. We already have this in the format of a week of events so perhaps to have a specific theme where the public are all particpating in project. Perhaps for space week this year to have a specific project to observe the Moon and organise a sidewalk astronomy events taking place simultanoeulsy all throughout the week - in the UK there is already Moon watch  http://www.astronomy2009.co.uk/index.php/moonwatch-projectsmenu-53
but this falls after WSW but we can take ideas from this project and develop them to take place during WSW. Through the IYA network we could bring on board the groups who have been organising the sidewalk astronomy events and ask them to get onboard for WSW.

Another event during 100 Hours of Astronomy was a webchat between teachers, astronomers, space scientists and kids. We could do the same for WSW.

best wishes,
Sotira
