Hi all,

I'd like to welcome the new people who are going to help us
reach our ambitious target namely to break last years record
(which itself was a record).

So, we want (much) more than 550 events in 63 countries!

Perhaps it is nice to start of with introducing ourselves...

My name is Jim Volp, I currently live in Spain where I work on
Mars Express Science Operations. I am married and have 2
daughters. Apart from World Space Week I am involved in a
few other projects and several IAF Committees. My ambition
is to engage young people with an interest in space.

Let's get going for 2009...

greetings from Colmenarejo, Madrid,

Jim

Continuing with introductions...

My name is Laura Swift Lind. I currently live in Logan and just got married. I am working on getting a planetarium established in Cache Valley and trying to help the Jr Engineering program survive budget cuts. My goal is to get kids excited about science and space exploration.

The theme for World Space Week, October 4-10, 2009 is "Space for Education."
Let's build on the great momentum of WSW 2007 and 2008 with even more events
in 2009!  http://www.worldspaceweek.org/calendar_2009.php

Please begin planning events and inviting others to do the same.

And especially given this year's theme, please invite teachers to inspire students
about learning using space during WSW 2009. Thank you.

Dear All,

Here's my introduction,

I'm currently President of the Association for Astronomy Education in the UK and my background is in Astrophysics and Plasma Cosmology.

About 4 years ago after my son started school I set up a social enterprise called "Cosmos Media" which is a science communication company specialising in space and astronomy education. This involves providing bespoke education programmes for around 700 schools in the UK and focuses on providing children from the ages of 4 to 18 with STEM experiences.

I also provide teacher training programmes and workshops and I am currently developing resources and materials for the Galileo Teacher Training Programme which is one of the global cornerstone projects of IYA 2009.

Some of the projects I have been involved with include the international Famelab competion and the Beautiful Science Network which is supported by the British Council to train and support the next generation of enthusiastic scientists in developing their skills in public outreach, and developing a new online journal called the "Science Newspaper" which aims to act as a platform to bring scientists, the media and the public together as a network, and also publishes news stories, experiances and events.

I'm also based at the Yorkshire Planetarium as their guest astronomer which provides live presenter led shows for the general public and schools.

As UK coordinator for WSW I hope to help make WSW 2009 the biggest and best so far, by bringing together everyone involved in space and astronomy education and outreach..

That's as much as I can think of right now!

All the best,
Sotira Trifourki
