1) We are trying to get Mr. Cirque du Soleil Guy Laliberte and
Mrs. Nicole Stott (ISS Crew) to record a message for WSW
from the International Space Station.

2) Globe has included an announcement at:
http://www.globe.gov/content/newsbriefs/Sept2009

3) The European Space Agency committed to do a Web story. And
they are looking into sponsoring 1 Educational Award.

4) The European School Network (www.eun.org) which is huge will
distribute our I2P

5) With permission, an email was sent to all 3000+ contacts of
http://www.eduspace.esa.int/ (in fact we will process all bounce
messages so they can clean up their database so they can send
an announcement when they launch their new website in near future).

6) Because of the above email, we have interest for really strong
NCs (it seems) in Cyprus and Hong Kong.

Apart from Eduspace, our I2P http://www.worldspaceweek.org/Invitation_to_Participate.html
has gone to many places such as UNESCO Associated School
Programme network and the secretariat of one of the two global
Scout organisations. (but we did that last year as well and we
think we need to not wait for their reply and directly get in contact
with National Scout organisations ourselves.... work to be done)

7) We got in contact with Robert Hill and asked him to find out
who to contact in Google (Europe) to get them have a special logo
during WSW:
http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=google+special+logo&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=x8mmSrqSAp3bjQf_x-mrCA&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=4

We also wanted to know more about GTTP via him.

8) Contacted Sotira, GTTP and WSW UK NC + on the EAT (this
Google group). She is filled with great ideas and has excellent
contacts
in the UK and through GTTP. Coolest idea: to organise something
similar to http://www.100hoursofastronomy.org/. She will contact
Pedro
and ask for some concrete actions: eg announce WSW through IYA web
and News letter.

9) Sotira will try to get WSW on the BBC website.

10) Sotira has a contact that will helps us send the I2P to our
email contact database. We will contact him asap.

11) Rosa (chair of GTTP) supported the idea of doing a
WSW GTTP global web event
and will contact the network of remote operated telescopes to
see if in the week the Moon can be observed. The idea is to invite
through the GTTP network, people to use their Galileoscopes,
webcams, binoculars, naked eye etc etc to make drawings of
the Moon, close to the Apollo landing sites. We will this weekend
draft the plan and then we have little time to pull it all together.

Most important of the event is the ability to send out a global
Press Release.

12) We distributed the WSW announce in Romania also via the
official channels of the Ministry of Education, to the Physics School
Inspectorates. It is expected the impact will be big.

13) We are involved with StarPeace Project (http://www.starpeace.org).
Two days ago, we participated to a telecon with them, and suggested
they organise events during the WSW. They suggested they hold star
parties where they observe, via telescopes, the ISS - an amazing way
of combining astronomy and astronautics. We are expecting an official
letter from them asking for collaboration.

14) Oooh yeah perhaps fun to mention, we made some changes to
the website, including including 2 YouTube videos. We still would
like to better/nicer link to the Flickr page with photos:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/worldspaceweek/sets/

If you have anything to add, suggest, propose, let's do it. We have
LESS THAN 1 MONTH to make 2009 better and bigger than 2008.

15) We got an agreement with SentForever which will allow schools to
send a message into space during WSW

One idea to create a buzz out of this, is that we make it a
competition and send out a Press Release: we invite schools to send us
their message before WSW, and then select 10 winners. I think this is
on an emotional level very complementary to the message we hope we
will be granted to receive from the ISS to Earth.

The WSW specific website will be setup in the coming days. We will
work on creating a Teacher guide.

More info on SentForever.com:
SentForever.com is a UK based company that transmits people’s messages
of love, remembrance and celebration into deep space where they will
travel at the speed of light for all of eternity. Technically we
acknowledge that the signals do get weaker, but our transmissions
never stop – they will exist forever. This is what appeals to people
about our service on an emotional level.

We are a commercial service (see our website at www.sentforever.com),
however, we do offer a free service for certain good causes such as
education and special occasions. This is why we can offer World Space
Week this opportunity at no cost.

Our service allows people to track how far their message has traveled
and given the speed at which the transmissions travel the distance
increases very rapidly. I believe that this will be a wonderful way
for school students to understand some of the concepts of ‘size and
distance of space’ when they can see exactly how far their personal
message has traveled at any time.
