Does anyone know a freeware program for copying and pasting from DVDs?

I have a lot of raw footage from the old days  and want to post some of it but don't have any software to do it.

I don't need bells and whistles.

i'm afraid there won't be anything to simply copy & paste. depending on
what format the videos are on your DVD, and where you want to paste them
to, you'll have to convert and/or compress them.

when i was using windows, i used non-free programs for that purpose
(cracked, of course; no big risk here in india). none of them were
particularly easy to use, though.

again, depending on the original format, you might find online services
that allow you to upload videos and convert them to the more common
formats--but that requires a decent internet connection.

otherwise i don't know and would be happy to hear what others recommend,
also for linux far as i can see, video editing in linux doesn't work so
well yet. was using kdenlive, which kept crashing every few minutes...

Windows XP comes with Movie Maker... it comes by default and it's very
easy to use.
Don't know exactly what you want to achieve but can handle many
formats.

Hello,
You can't copy and paste part video files. What you can do is use a
programme such as AVS Video Editor and mess around until you have
mastered the basics. AVS Video Editor comes in a package of software
which is part of AVS Video Converter (version 6). Older versions may
be freeware.
I have used it for my You Tube postings: http://www.youtube.com/user/HTdasa
There is another programme that is specifically for You Tube and you
can Google for it as I forget it's name.
Unfortunately there is no way to do what you want without a little
knowledge of , but with a little practice this programme will deliver
the goods.
When you do post them let me know where they are.

You CAN cut/copy & paste DVD parts.  I definitely recommend it if you want to just take some parts of a DVD and don't want to convert the entire DVD to AVI and mess with editors.

I used this and it worked very well

you can edit in native MPEG format and save without re-encoding.

Highly recommended once you get around the small learning curve

Thanks guys, I have bookmarked the womble site and sure enough there
is Movie Maker in XP, never knew I had it.

Learning curves are always painful at my age but because I have some
good stuff to share, I will get through it somehow. It may not be
soon, but at least the roadblock of no software has been removed, for
which I will be eternally grateful.
