What makes for a longer life

BY SAM JACOBS
Editor in Chief, TIME

It is the season of making resolutions and seeking advice on how to live a happier and healthier life. Next week, TIME will publish a new issue dedicated to longevity—reporting on this growing field is one of our own New Year’s resolutions.

Last fall, we launched The Future of Living, a new interview series exploring how and why people are living longer. So far, we’ve published 11 conversations with the likes of Stacy Andersen, co-director of the New England Centenarian Study, the largest study of centenarians and their families in the world; Dr. Kerry Burnight, a geriatrician and author of the bestselling book Joyspan: The Art and Science of Thriving in Life’s Second Half; Bryan Johnson, a tech entrepreneur who has spent millions of dollars trying to optimize his health and slow his aging; Laura Carstensen, director of the Stanford Center on Longevity; Nir Barzilai, director of the Institute for Aging Research at New York’s Albert Einstein College of Medicine; and Emi Gal, founder and CEO of the full-body MRI company Ezra.

The trends these leaders are shaping and describing are set to upend the next century. I hope you enjoy these interviews and look out for next week’s cover package.

What do you think is the secret to living a longer life? Let me know at s...@time.com.
