Hi,

I've uploaded a few shp file layers to my map (after converting them from kml in QGIS), but I can't seem to bring up the rich text editor in the description field. I've selected "edit feature" and brought up the point on the map, where I see a box with name, description, timestamp, etc, all of which can be changed in the small editor. When I click on the description field though, the rich text editor doesn't appear (I've tried this on new points made from within worldmap, and it works just fine). I've also tried pasting HTML into the small editor, but it doesn't seem to work. Can somebody help me with this? I have a lot of points and lines stored in kml files right now, and would rather not have to recreate them all by hand on worldmap.

Thanks,
Erika

Hi Erika,

Currently Worldmap will only allow HTML editing on fields labelled "Description" exactly, with an uppercase D and all other characters in lowercase.  I took a look at your layers and the Description field is actually truncated to just "descriptio'.  This is because the maximum length of field names in a shapefile is 10 characters.  This limitation is bypassed when creating a layer from scratch (for which the HTML editor was created) because it is saved directly to a spatial database rather than a shapefile. However, what I can do is change the code to match any field beginning with 'descriptio' instead.  I should be able to make that change in the next day or two.

That sounds like the perfect fix - thanks so much! I'll wait for the change, and confirm that it works.

Hi Erika,

You can go ahead and try it now, it should work with your current layers already with an attribute of "descriptio".  You may need to clear your browser cache to get the latest javascript code.
