Hi - I was very happy to come across WorldMap when I realized that
Google Maps was not going to cut it for me. Great tool!

I am trying to create a map that allows a user to search for an
address/town anywhere in the world and maps that location to a
specific river basin. I uploaded and edited the river basin layer,
along with the corresponding water scarcity indicators, but I am
having trouble uploading the layer for Google Roadmaps that would
allow me to search for a specific location.

When I click on Add Layers > External Data > Google Roadmap, and then
hit "Add Layer", the layer does not show up in the main view. How can
I upload the Google Roadmap (or some similar layer) that would allow
me to search for a specific address?

Thanks!

Hi Cyrus,
It is not now possible to search Google Roads by loading it that way.
Google Roads are already loaded for display but not for searching.
The ability to search for places or address around the world (a global
gazetteer) is important and we will be developing this capability in
the near future. Thanks!

Hi Ben

Yes that would be very useful. Great job on this site.

I came across other examples where the search function seemed to be
embedded in the map webpage. For instance, the Surgical Safety web map
example has exactly what I am looking for (http://maps.cga.harvard.edu:
8080/Hospital/), where the search address function in integrated into
the layers. Is there any documentation for how to add this
functionality to my current WorldMap or is this beyond the average
user's permissions? Also, do you have a timeframe on the development
of an address search tool?

Thanks!

Cyrus

We will have a place name search tool within the next 6 months, but it could be significantly sooner.  If you have a map (shape file) with place names and locations you can upload it and then search it as a temporary solution.
