Step-by-Step Instructions for Ubuntu

I was hoping someone could post step-by-step instructions for installing worldengine in Ubuntu, making no assumptions about what users may know. I have tried following the steps provided in the docs, on the world-engine site, here, and google generally. I'm stuck on a "ImportError: No module named platec" error now and can'y seem to get past it. I'd like to start clean from a clear set of instructions.
