Healthcare Quality Resources

Pertussis Resources for Healthcare Professionals – Pertussis, also known as whooping cough, is a very contagious respiratory illness that can lead to severe illness and even death. CDC's Project Firstline and the American Medical Association recently hosted a webinar on preventing and responding to pertussis in healthcare settings. The session covered early identification of suspected cases, transmission risks in healthcare environments, and infection prevention actions that help reduce spread. The webinar recording is now available: https://bit.ly/PertussisUpdate

Project Firstline also developed a pertussis micro-learn to support quick, practical application of these concepts in healthcare settings. This short training reinforces key actions, including recognizing symptoms, understanding transmission risks, and applying infection prevention and control measures.

Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR): Influenza Vaccination Coverage Among Nursing Home Residents and Health Care Personnel — United States, 2024–25 Influenza Season – Nursing home residents and healthcare personnel (HCP) are at increased risk for exposure to influenza, and residents are at increased risk for severe illness. During the 2024–25 influenza season, vaccination coverage was 61% among nursing home residents and 42% among HCP working in nursing homes, with coverage varying by employment type. Increasing vaccination coverage, along with implementing preventive interventions such as influenza testing, antiviral treatment, infection prevention and control measures, and antiviral chemoprophylaxis, can help protect nursing home residents and HCP from influenza illness and its complications. Routine annual seasonal influenza vaccination is recommended for eligible persons, including HCP and those at increased risk for severe influenza.
