New World screwworm (NWS) is a growing threat to the health of both animals and people in the United States. As this pest spreads through Central America and Mexico toward the United States, it’s important to recognize the signs of an infestation and know how to keep it from spreading further.
CDC recently joined federal partners from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration to share the latest NWS guidance in a “
New World screwworm: Detect, Prevent, and Treat” webinar, hosted by American Veterinary Medical Association. This resource is meant to promote understanding of NWS and help veterinarians detect, prevent, and treat infestations.
The webinar includes a presentation on the human health implications of the pest by CDC Veterinary Medical Officer Dr. Susan Montgomery. It is available now and offers one Continuing Education (CE) credit for participants. Please note that some of these presentations contain graphic images.
