Data is only the beginning.

Join CDC's Environmental Public Health Tracking Program for Tracking Awareness Week, July 6-10, 2026. This annual event celebrates the people, partnerships, innovations, and decisions that make environmental health information accessible, actionable, and impactful. This year's theme, "Beyond Data," highlights how environmental and health data are transformed into meaningful public health action.

Since 2002, CDC's Tracking Program has connected environmental and health data through a nationwide network that helps communities better understand environmental health challenges and make informed decisions. Today, 33 CDC-funded state and local health departments contribute to this effort, helping turn information into action that protects public health.

What to Expect This Week

Each day of Tracking Awareness Week will spotlight a different aspect of how the Tracking Program goes Beyond Data:

  • Sparking Innovation (Monday) – New tools, technologies, and approaches that empower informed decision-making
  • Getting Local (Tuesday) – Using local data to better understand and address community environmental health concerns
  • Expanding Partnerships (Wednesday) – Collaborations that strengthen public health efforts
  • Informing Decisions (Thursday) – How data supports policies, programs, and personal health choices
  • Celebrating Successes (Friday) – Real-world achievements and public health outcomes made possible through Tracking

Why It Matters

The environment where we live, work, and play influences our health every day. By making this information easier to access and understand, CDC’s Tracking Program helps public health professionals, researchers, policymakers, and community members make informed decisions that improve health outcomes. Data is important, but data alone doesn't save lives. Tracking Awareness Week is about celebrating the people, partnerships, and innovations that turn data into action.
