SUBJECT: TUESDAY NIGHT
INT-ADV CLASS TONIGHT!!
Hello Everyone!
Is it just me or has
this past week and weekend just flown by right before my eyes!!
I am so excited about our Tuesday class this week
with all the new faces we will see and all the new dances that we saw or learned
from the Tampa Event!
It seems like since so many of us attended the Tampa
Event from our class we can almost start fresh with new dances and just
review the older ones if needed. It's like the start of a new year! :o)!!!
I have recieved quite an input on what dances
you all liked and what you want to teach or be taught but I would
like to hear more!!!! We all need to work together to help make our dances in
our class suitable for just about everyone! We will still have our Beg-Int to
our Int dances and if there is a straight Beg that has great music and is
popular that will be taught along with a Int-Adv
!
All new dances requested in our class so far
have been requested by at least one person and not chosen out or random and I
plan on keeping it that way but with all the new dances that were taught in
Tampa we might have to be a bit pickier on some! Just because a dance is taught
doesn't mean we all have to like it but someone in our class does and they
deserve our attention just like the ones we all love!
Remember our class hours are 6:30 to 10:00 or 10:30. From 6:30 to 7:30 we will
have open dancing with a new teach included every other week or so!
New teach
and review this Tuesday at 7 will be Carol teaching Why Did You
Lie.
New Dances:

MaryAnn
Reviews:

& John Kinser
Swingin In The Rain...Larry Hayden...taught by

I know there are plenty more so please let me know what I
might have left out and who want to fill in the empty teaching
spots!
We will also review upon request any dance in our class that
has already been taught.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW ABOUT ANY
DANCE YOU WOULD LIKE TO LEARN TEACH OR DO USING THE REQUEST SHEET
!
Don't forget first time is FREEEEE !!!!!!
See you
Tuesday!

SUBJECT: M.O.L.D. II
Event in Lawrence, MAFROM: Dee G.
deel...@gmail.com Just got
back from the Men Of Line Dance (M.O.L.D.) event this weekend. It was held
at The Claddagh Pub in Lawrence, MA. This event was put on by Billy-Bob's,
which is Bill Gibson and Bob Grundy. The event helped to raise funds for
The St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. This was a great dance event
and the pub was a great place to dance. A large dance floor upstairs, this
was the main floor, and a smaller dance floor downstairs. Lunch
(sandwiches and soup) and dinner (roast pork, veggies, salad, and bread) were
included in the price of the event. Not only did MOLD stand for Men Of
Line Dance, but it also stands for Mostly Old Line Dances. All the dances
at this event (which were chosen by the attendees) had to be at least 5 years
old or older. I learned SYNCOPATIONS, taught by Bob Grundy. This is
a dance I see all the time because they still dance it in my area (SW
Connecticut/Westchester County, NY). I also learned POWER SURGE, taught by
"Wildman" Louis St. George. Doing this dance, which goes to faster music,
was much easier at a faster pace. Loved this dance! Next up was SXE,
taught by Christopher Petre. Another fun dance with some very sexy moves
in it, which is always fun! Christopher also gave us a bonus teach of his
new dance with John Robinson and Junior Willis - ICU. An awesome dance
that everyone seemed to enjoy. Another bonus teach came from Bob Grundy
himself - a dance that was choreographed by Bob Grundy and Dave Sickles (another
of the MOLD event instructors). The Dance, ME AND BOBBY, goes to a remake
of the Janis Joplin hit, Me and Bobby McGee - cute dance! We had a great
day of learning and a great night of dancing! The pub downstairs had a
vast variety of drinks including Irish Coffee, and of course, Guinness! I
would go back here again!!!

SUBJECT: SUNDAY OUT WITH BIG DAVE
We had a great afternoon with Alan 'Up-North' on Sunday afternoon - Thanks
very much to Alan & Jackie for coming over to see us - Alan did us proud
with a good mix of dances during the afternoon
-----
-Waiting For You - A nice slow Improver Two-Step to
a catchy track Candy by Paolo Nutini
-Preachin' To The Choir - A
classic country Two-Step to a great Rodney Crowell track
-Questions & Answers - The hardest of the day but well cracked
by all the mixed crowd - A cracking track by 'Ben's Brother' which was
especially popular - A really cool/smooth West Coast beat I think
-Real Late Starter - Alan's latest release - A phrased A/B
Intermediate that hits the catchy pop beat really well - Should be a great
mainstream hit this one - Don't be put off by the
phrasing
Most of the dancers mentioned one or more of
these when I was chatting at the end, so I'll be leaning all of them to carry
forward in classes - I particularly liked Real Late Starter myself.
With Wave On Wave a 'blast from the past' in the Linedancer Mag,
we had a quick recap of that - By request Alan also obliged with a recap of
Maggie's Sexy Chick ........ And over the afternoon I also did quick recaps of
Straight Thru, Pop, Lock & Drop, Nitty Gritty, Mambotastic & All I Want
Is You - Recent teaches in the area & all really popular.
I
also taught Craig's new one Hands Up as a starter for the afternoon - A cool
easy dance to a great track - Well received at Tampa last weekend - And I will
be doing it in classes this week amongst others.
In social dancing
the most popular was Craig's Playing With Fire, which he taught when he was at
out last Sunday-Out back in September - Evacuate The Dancefloor too - Ria's Ay
Amore, Neville/Julie's Can't Get Involved & Jo/John/Mark's Hell If I were
all notable floor-fillers - All the obvious ones too including Robbie's
Mexicali/Scooby Doo/What Do You See/Go Mama Go, Sister Kate, Release Me, Time To
Swing, Just Dance Away, Coochie Bang Bang, For The First Time, Jesse James
etc..
Playlist :

you in Blackpool for our Alcatraz weekend if you are coming - Looking forward to
a fun weekend with Andrew & Sheila, Craig, Dee & Shaz & all our
regulars - Let's escape - And party in San Fransisco !!
:-)
Cheers.

Just returned from another great Tim Gillis Weekend. I was part of
Forty's group and as usual it was a nonstop time of laughing and
enjoying
everyone's company. The dances were great and look forward to
dancing them at home. Cannot wait till April to go again. Sharon

SUBJECT: Dances taught
by Julie Murray in Folkestone in the UK!Email:
juliean...@msn.com
Hi there!
As the winter season approaches here in the
UK - the thoughts of parties are on our minds, and all thoughts of learning lots
of hard dances fades away from us in favour of dances that are easy to
teach/learn at our Christmas Parties and in classes during the lead up to the
Christmas break!
So during our recent weekend break to
Folkestone I taught the following dances - all were incredibly well received and
well worth a look for dancers of all levels, not just
improvers.....
NO TAGS/RESTARTS/OR ANY SORT OF MONKEY BUSINESS IN
ANY OF THE DANCES BELOW!!
NOTHING'S GONNA BRING ME DOWN - RIA VOS
- 32 counts written to Paolo Nutini's fab song 'Pencil full of
lead'
TUPSY TURVY - SANDRA SPECK - 62 counts written to Upside Down
by Paloma Faith - this dance is taking off over here big time and is a nice easy
teach too!
CASANOVA COWBOY - BY ROB FOWLER - 32 counts written to
Cowboy Casanova by Carrie Underwood - this is a slightly trickier dance that
pleased the intermediates, and gave the improvers a real
challenge.
THINK I'M FALLING - BY JUSTINE BROWN - one of our lesser
known UK choreographers - this is a lovely dance for your beginners to get their
teeth into - written to Think I'm Falling In love by Harrison County - you
can get this as a free download via this website
www.hotlinedance.co.uk
A harder dance was included in the weekend by request from a few
of my dancers, only 32 counts but a three wall dance with the tag being the same
on each fourth wall! This was previously taught at the Viking Party and is a hit
with the funky music lovers! well worth a look!
TIME TO PLAY - BY
PETER AND ALISON - to Hit the Floor by Big Ali ft Dollarman - you need the 3
minute version of this song..
Thats its for now folks - especially
if you are in the UK during these torrential downpours and gales we are
having!

SALE OF THE TAMPA BAY LINE DANCE
CLASSIC!!FROM: ARLINE WINERMAN
LuvToDa...@webtv.net
I am hearing all kinds of rumors that
have been going around about the sale of my Tampa
event.
I wish people would ask me before starting
rumors that are false or
inaccurate. Makes for some
uncomfortable moments.
Here is the TRUTH:
TAMPA HAS NOT BEEN SOLD
YET. I HAVE REPEATEDLY
SAID THAT I WILL MAKE A DECISION IN DECEMBER AND
MAKE THE ANNOUNCEMENT IN JAN.
2010.
I STILL OWN THE EVENT AND WILL RUN IT
AS I ALWAYs HAVE FOR
2010. THE NEW DIRECTORS WILL
BEGIN OWNERSHIP IN 2011.
There are six people at the moment who are
interested and two who casually made a
mention to me during the
weekend. So NO
decision as yet!
Please - everyone - stop spreading
unfounded rumors until I make my
announcement in Jan. Thanks so
much for your understanding and
cooperation. I will
never understand how all this
"stuff" gets going around.

SUBJECT: SWINGANG TAMPA NEWS
Thank you Tim Gillis for hosting such a fun-filled event at the
Honor's Haven Resort in NY. And what a bargain: a beautiful room,
meals galore, workshops, performances, demos, dj's, karaoke, a live
band and non-stop dancing for one price - for a long weekend! More
food than you could imagine. In addition to 3 regular meals a day
there was a late night continental breakfast plus a late night ice
cream sundae party and dancing, dancing, dancing. It was like a being
on a cruise - without the ocean and the ship!
The Honor's Haven Resort had dance floors in the lower lobby, the
main
lobby, the dining room (with a view of the golf course and
mountains
that is amazing) and a large room called The West Room
complete with
stage as well - not to mention a dance floor in the
Karaoke Bar; and
of course, there was the main Nightclub with stage,
audience seating
and dance floor. My room was quite comfy and large
enough to even
practice some dances in the room.
A few favorite classes from my new intermediate level
adventures:
Syncopated Kiss (taught by Forty Arroyo, choreographed by
Forty)
If I Could Change (taught by Rona Kaye, ch. by Ruben Luna - Rona is
a
new teacher for me in my dance experience and she is great - Thank
you
Rona.)
Trust Me (a classic taught by Rosie Multari, ch. by Geri
Morrison and
Rosie put together a fabulous 70's show put on by the
instructors and
other staff members. More about the show in another
newsletter
hopefully....)
A big highlight was the Tim Gillis Band. Great fun to hear and see
them on stage and dance to their music after hearing so much about
them from my dance buddies. Check 'em out if you don't know
them...
www.timgillisband.com/index.htm .
I particularly enjoyed one of the vocalists in the band, Judy Ricci.
She is excellent at drawing the crowd into participation. She came out
on the dance floor - danced with us while she sang - encouraging
everyone to just let it hang and have some fun. She has a powerful
voice and a charming warmth. Thank you Judy! And love that Tim - I
especially love it when he gets in to his "Elvis" voice!!!!!!!!
Intense dancing (just ask my feet) but in a very relaxed atmosphere
in
comfortable surroundings. Get your booty to a Tim Gillis Dance
Weekend
in April and/or November. You will not regret it.
Blessings to all!

SUBJECT: RE: JJ JAM 2009 & PIPESTEM LINE DANCE
WEEKENDFROM: ALICE DAUGHERTY/TIM HAND
E-MAIL:
Bigalof...@aol.com Well
we had an excellent time once again at the JJ Jam hosted by Chris John and John
Robinson this past weekend in Indianapolis, IN. I'm telling you and I've
said it before if you do not have their event on your calendar you are missing
out on one fun weekend. This was our 3rd JJ Jam and we have had a blast
each time. Chris and John goes that extra mile just to assure the
dancers and their staff has an excellent time and that we did. Now we all
know how much fun we can have with Funny Lady JoAnne Brady, You Never Know What
She Will Say Jamie Marshall, and So Sweat Karen Hedges and then of course we
can't forget the guys, shake that butt vine to the right Junior Willis who we
all just love to watch from behind, oh did I just say that oh well like he
hasn't heard it before, then add Cato Larsen who we met at the first JJ Jam and
just as sweet as he can be with that little smile he has and now add Craig
Bennett which this was our first time really getting to meet and talk with
Craig, but now I can add him to my cute as a button list and then we add Michele
Burton and Michael Barr which we all love and have so much fun with and you had
an excellent staff of instructors and a lot of great dances taught for all
levels. Dancing at night was excellent with everybody from our new dancers
to the most experienced dancers getting to dance. Everyone I talked to had
no complaints, when I ask what dances they liked everyone just said there were
so many. I have to say the biggest laugh from the weekend was when John
and we can't forget John Robinson, but then we all know John and you know you
never know what he will do, but you know you will have a lot of laughs and a
good time, but this one class he was teaching he stopped to introduce all of the
vendors and when he introduced Jamie Marshall's table and she was actually in
the other room teaching and missed what was going on, but Jill Babinec ran over
to Jamie's Table put some T-Shirts in her shirt and filled in for Jamie, it was
too funny! The room was laughing so hard including John. Then we had
Craig Bennett who had 2 girls wearing shirts that they are now Craig's dancers
and Junior Willis's junkies and that was too funny when they walked in the room
where Junior was actually teaching. The dinner Saturday night with the
instructors was just a laugh a minute. This time we played dance Charades
with each instructor given a list of line dances and their table had to guess
the names and some of the things the instructors came up with trying to describe
these dances was just too funny! This is why I say if you attend you
really need to attend the dinner, it is a little extra cost but between the meal
and the laughs it is well worth the extra cost. They will be having
their next event June 17th-20th and you really should mark it on your calendar
and make plans to join them and remember register early for any event you attend
because that really helps our event directors to prepare for the event and we do
want everyone to continue having their events so we can have great weekends of
dancing like this and many others.

Send a list of dances taught, the choreographer(s) and the location they
were taught. If a dance has been taught at more than one venue, it can be listed
with the number of times you taught it. Please don't use parentheses in your
lists. For those of you who compile lists, please mark with an asterisk each
time choreographers teach their own dances.
If you would like to be added to my mailing list or if you would like to
know to which address to send your dances, please send an e-mail to

FEEDBACK ON USING A LAPTOP FOR LESSONS
I posted a thread on the Sunday World Linedance newsletter - I wanted
help with changing my CD and CD player to ipod or laptop to use for classes so I
dont have as much to carry. I have been teaching linedance for 15
years and back then there were no such things as laptops and ipods! How things
have changed.
I have had lots of enquiries from other instructors, but mostly
they are like me and dont know too much about computers (one lady is still using
tapes) and are nervous of trying something new but would like to know the ins
and outs of an easier system.
They all want me to forward any help and
advice I get - which I dont mind doing - but I havent had any definite help
yet.
I wondered if it would be possible for you to put an article about it on
the world linedance website? Perhaps you know an instructor who actually uses a
laptop or ipod for classes and would be willing to do this?
I know I would
be very grateful for any help you could give, but also I know it is another job
for you and you already do so much.
Would like to know what you
think.

bottom of my heart I want to thank all of the wonderful dancers who attended
last weekend's Tim Gillis Fall Dance Weekend. We had a ball, didn't we? It's
great seeing all of my friends from every corner of the northeast and
beyond. And to my new friends from Connecticut, welcome and I truly hope
to see you in the Spring(April 23-25). The entire staff once again will
put all of their effort into making your weekend the best for dancing country
couples, beginner and alternative/country intermediate/advanced dancing. We'll
have it all!
Lynne M.
