Subject: “COPA” Will Air in New TV Series By the BBC !!!

On Friday, November 30, West Park Pictures flew in their entire film crew from England along with the celebrated English actor Stephen Fry. They came here to film a subject for the South Florida segment of a high-profile, peak time 5 x 50 minute series for BBC TV. In this series titled, “Stephen Fry’s United States of America”, Stephen Fry travels to all of the states in the USA, encountering the magnificent, the beautiful, the “real” America. They were looking for warmth, humour, friendliness, energy, landscape and delight rather than being critical or negative in any way. As part of their affectionate “snap-shot” of life in Florida, they wanted to film something that reflected the life of the senior adult community in Florida.
After interviewing several smaller communities in the West Palm Beach area, they contacted Century Village Deerfield Beach’s Vice President Eva Rachesky. They were very impressed with the blueprint that communities like Kings Point and Century Village had laid out for many future senior adult communities ie. a completely self-contained community revolving around a multi-million dollar Clubhouse with a multitude of activities and entertainment all under one roof. They had not seen anything like this in the UK and felt it would be very interesting to viewers all over the world to learn something about this lifestyle in their upcoming television series.
While searching for the subject for their series, they asked Eva how she dealt with the ever growing single female population. She told them how the COPA has addressed this problem by providing the single ladies with male dance hosts. As soon as they heard that, they insisted on learning all about this premiere event and the man behind it all. They
met with and interviewed Ira Weisburd, the producer and creator of the COPA. They learned that this event also impacts residents in Kings Point Delray,Kings Point Tamarac, Century Village Boca Raton as well as dozens of other similar communities throughout the year. They had found the subject they were looking for !!!
To accommodate their very tight film schedule, a special “COPA” would have to be scheduled in less than 3 weeks time. They could only film the last weekend of November when they were scheduled to fly into Florida. By that time, the Kings Point Delray event had already taken place. Eva turned to Ira and asked him if he would be willing to do a special COPA
for the film crew. On November 30th, a record crowd of more than 675 residents from Century Village Deerfield (including many residents from Kings Point Delray,Kings Point Tamarac and Century Village Boca Raton) attended what the BBC has since called the event that “best reflects the life of the South Florida Senior Adult Community” !!!
No event has ever made such an impact on so many senior adult communities in South Florida as the COPA. It is the first event that seems to offer something for everyone. Even the business community loves this event. Over 50 restaurants and businesses are sponsoring the COPA each and every month and that list is growing.
The COPA is undoubtedly the “Hottest Ticket” in town !!!
Ira Weisburd has created an event that has a “universal appeal”. Attendees range in age from the 40’s to the 90’s with music and dancing that appeals to every generation. Whether you like Latin, Ballroom, Disco, Line, Rock n’ Roll or just great Party Music, Ira will find just the right mix to keep the dance floor filled all night. The COPA touches the hearts and souls of everyone who attends. It brings out the best in all of us and has brought our community together in ways that cannot be measured.
Our January COPA “Black and White Masked Ball” is one of the most elegant evenings. It takes place on Saturday, January 12, 2008 in the Partyroom from 7:30-10:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale in the Box Office. All Tables are reserved, so make your reservations early. LET'S GET SAVED, Dan McInerney, 64ct/2W/inter/adv. Music: The Word by Prince. Tough dance to teach to a cool song. Very popular dance & the class wants to learn it, but it's going to take a few more lessons & more time to get it. Worth it, I might add.

HICKORY LAKE, Ron Welters, 32ct/4w/beg. Music: Old Hickory Lake by Bekka & Billy. Becoming quite popular with all groups of dancers. Introduced to the NY area by Kathy Hunyadi at the Tim Gillis Weekend in November.Every level can have fun with this one.
Intermediates: DREAMIN, Barry Amato, 32ct/2w/inter, Music: Tell Me What You Dream by Restless Heart. Class has this one down beautifully now. Sure to be on the request list for a long time. Popular in the quad county area.
DOORS OF LIFE: Michael Barr, 48ct,2w/inter/adv. waltz line dance, Music: Doors of Life by Mariya Takeuchi. This was our second lesson and the class really got into the flow of this beautiful dance.
It's a show stopper for sure. Becoming more popular in our area and sure to be at the top of the list and holding!

Happy Holidays to all.....
Monday nights at the Shriners in Palm Beach Gardens are going strong. There's still room for more tho....remember beginner's lessons start at 6:30 ($5.00) until 7:45; then intermediate from 7:45 ($8.00) thru 10:00. Dances we've been doing in the beginner classes are: Hog Wild, Country Walkin'; Cowboy Boogie; Ride 'Em Cowboy; Reggae Cowboy; Ding, Ding, Dong; Slappin' Leather; and Boot Scoot. This Monday night, we will review and I'm going to teach Red Hot Salsa. As for the intermediate classes, we've done Zjozzy's Funk; Don't Cry on my Shoulder; Online; Charanga; Not Like That; Temptation; One; and this week we'll be working on Boom Boom Boom and Rebel Amor. So you can see, we are pretty tired by the end of the evening....! Also, Barbara Lumbers is down from Canada and is helping me out, so that's a great blessing not to have to run to the back of the room all the time! She'll hopefully be teaching a few that she's done from up north in the next couple of months. We surely miss her husband Richard who passed away unexpectedly this past winter, and it's been hard on her, but she's a very strong and wonderful person and is a great help to me.
As a special treat, we will be serving 'sweets' on Monday night, the 17th....if you have a favorite cookie recipe to share, please bring some along. We will have some finger snacks, sweets, and coffee. Also, there will be NO classes on the 24th (Christmas Eve) or the 31st (New Year's Eve)... We will be looking for everyone to come back on the 7th of January.
Tuesday nights at Hemingway's in Stuart, FL are wonderful as usual. Our beginner's classes are in their 3rd week and going strong...the floor is full, along with our intermediate class and partner lessons. Everyone sticks around until around 10:00 p.m. to dance the new ones and the oldies. Please make note that we are having our Christmas Party on the 18th which is the Tuesday before Christmas. We are asking these next two weeks that everyone bring an unwrapped toy to be donated to the Eagles Club in Stuart. They have a great program to help those who might not otherwise have much of a Christmas. Also, let's make this Christmas party a special event...invite a guest or a neighbor or a friend you think might enjoy the evening. We'll make a special effort to get everyone on the dance floor for some easy beginner's stuff so that they can see how much fun we have. Hemingway's will be putting out a buffet and Joy is always tops behind the bar with the liquid refreshments. The cover charge will still be the same, $5.00 for 18 and older and $3.00 up to 18.... We hope you will join us to make this an extra special Christmas party this year.

Monday 12/10 is the last day to get the $5 deal for the 12/15 Line
Dance-a-thon. After Monday it goes up to $8. The line dance is this Saturday
from 6pm-12midnight or longer depending if people want to stay. This is a
non-alcoholic event but we still have fun! Everyone is encouraged to bring a
dish/snack to share. We provide sodas and bottled water. This is a fun and
inexpensive way to get your line dancing fix for the holidays! We play all kinds
of line dances and if you're not sure if we have the music then bring your CD's
as we will play them too! We have 2 large dance floors and usually stop a couple
of times during the evening and have some local instructors teach some new line
dances.

First week back we taught Peter & Alison's "Could It Be Forever",

that they taught at the Las Vegas Dance Explosion, it was very popular
there, and is going down very well with our dancers. A lovely
nightclub 2 step to a fabulous track "Now or Never" by Mark Medlock.

Second week back we taught another we had learnt whilst on holiday,
this was one Robbie had taught in Tampa "Be Brave", choreographed to
Jennifer Lopez's "Brave". Another that's going very well at our class.

Last week we got round to doing Neville & Julie's "I'll Make

Dance", another we had learnt in Tampa, fabulous dance, music not to
everyone's taste and a few sat down, but the majority of the class
love it and it seems to be very popular all over this area.

We invite you to the 7th annual Line Dance Showdown to be held at the Sheraton Framingham Hotel, in Framingham, Massachusetts on April 3-6, 2008.

THURSDAY’S KICK OFF DANCE: This is a FREE night! After the floors are down, everyone is welcome to come and dance.
WORKSHOPS: ALL workshops are included in your weekend or daily passes. There will be 2-3 workshops an hour and a room primarily dedicated to beginners.
REGISTRATIONS: The Line Dance Showdown offers ONE pass, which includes your three-day weekend pass, the Friday & Saturday night open dances, SHOWDOWN competition and UNLIMITED WORKSHOPS. We will also offer single day and nightly passes for those that can’t make the entire weekend.
SATURDAY DINNER: Once again, we are offering a Pre Showdown dinner on Saturday evening. We only sell 150 dinner tickets and those who purchase the dinner will have preferred seating to the Showdown Competition. Please purchase early.
