MONDAY, 9/12 I'M BAAAAACCCCCKKKK. I didn't want to advertise
that I was going to be out of town since there is so much info on the internet
but I was at WOW in my old stomping grounds in San Francisco. I'll tell
you all about it but I had a great time. This had to be held in the most
beautiful hotel I have ever attended a line dance event, right on the bay with
couches outside the huge, gorgeous lobby area. It was so nice meeting so
many people I've talked with online but who don't come to East Coast events (and
there are a LOT OF PEOPLE who don't travel across the country to events and
we'll just have to do something about that!!) Thanks, Judy, for outdoing
yourself and giving us such a spectacular weekend. WOW next year with be
in Taiwan so mark your calendars. I'll TRY to get the report done
today and tomorrow and I took a ton of pictures.

Less than a week to go for the one-day line dance workshop at Step It Up

Registrations are still being accepted. Walk-ins will be accepted, too, but
it's always best to let us know you are coming so we can be sure to have enough

dances to certain rhythms and songs. So you can go out anywhere and dance as
much as you want!
San Diego's own Bracken Ellis Potter will also provide tips and pointers on
basic dance technique so you can dance with less chance of injury or
discomfort.
The popular line dance rhythms that will be covered are east coast swing,
cha, country cha (aka social cha), two step, waltz, and nightclub two step.
During the workshop, you will learn a basic dance in each of the rhythms, as you
learn how to identify those rhythms in music, and practice matching those basic
dances with various songs.
The evening dance will include all-request open dancing and an improver
level line dance lesson, too.

SUBJECT: WHAT GEOFF
AND CELIA ARE TEACHING IN THE UK
Week comm. September 5th
Very quiet night at our Monday class at Shipley Club. In the first
half
of the evening taught “MY PRETTY BELINDA” (Vikki Morris), seemed
to go down
well with the few that were there. As we hadn’t had a class
last week we had
2 dances to teach in the second half to keep up with
our Wednesday
class and they both received a great response from the
class. They were “LOVE
2 DANCE” (Simon Ward & Niels Poulsen) &
“ALABAMA SLAMMIN” (Rachael
McEnaney). Did quite a lot more floor
splits which all seemed to work very
well. At the end of the night
just for a bit of fun showed them “THE WOBBLE”
everybody got up and
joined in, what a laugh !!
Playlist for the night was :- Bosa Nova, Wishful Thinking, Hello
Dolly,
Tennessee Waltz Surprise, Vertical Expressions, Pretty Belinda,
Haba Haba,
Pot of Gold / Country Walking (split floor), Telling The
World / This &
That (split floor), Party Freak / Stroll Along Cha
(split floor), Something
In The Water, I Am A Good Girl, 1-2-3-4, I’m
No Good / Little Red Book (split
floor), On The Edge / Black Coffee
(split floor), Soul Food, Come Dance With
Me, Alabama Slammin’, Close
To Paradise, Not Drunk Enough, Love 2 Dance, No
Scandal, Dr Flame, My
Motivation, Beyond Your Eyes & The Wobble.
On Wednesday at Saltaire our new dance for the night was
“HITCHED”
choreographed by David Spencer aka “Speno” to the Bruno Mars
track
“Marry You”, a 64 count 4 wall dance with one restart on wall 4
facing
the 12 o’clock wall. Although it’s quite a fast dance thought
this
would be an easy teach but they seemed to have some problem with
the
turning rumba boxes near the end but we got there in the end. Had
read
and heard good reports about this dance which had been taught
at
Graham & Kathy’s class the previous week and certainly
didn’t
disappoint at ours with everyone on the floor all three times
we
danced it. Recapped last week’s dance “LOVE 2 DANCE” (Simon Ward
&
Niels Poulsen) another dance that looks like being a hit with
our
dancers with just a few sitting it out who aren’t too keen on
the
music.. Also recapped “ALABAMA SLAMMIN” (Rachael McEnaney) going
well
with the majority and “MY MOTIVATION” (Guyton Mundy) probably
the
Number One dance at our class at the moment. A few struggled with
“NOT
DRUNK ENOUGH” (Shaz Walton) so will have to make sure we go
through
that again with them next week.
Playlist was :- Rhyme Or Reason, Plan B, Upside Down, Burlesque,
Only
Girl, Drip Droppin’, I’m No Good, Unpredictable, Amame, Sunset
Mambo,
No Scandal, Dr Flame, The Flute, Soul Food, Close To Paradise,
Hitched
(twice), Haba Haba, Love 2 Dance, Devotion, My Motivation,
Party
Freak, Beyond Your Eyes, Alabama Slammin’, Not Drunk Enough,
Hitched
(again), On The Edge, Telling the World & All Of Me.

This is a reminder to respond to the World Dance Instruction survey (WDI)
for August. Please submit the dances taught in your area by September 20. I will
then compile a database of dances taught by state, province or country and send
it out to my mailing list.
Send a list of dances taught, the choreographer(s) and the location they
were taught. If a dance has been taught at more than one venue, it can be listed
with the number of times you taught it. Please don't use parentheses in your
lists. For those of you who compile lists, please mark with an asterisk each
time choreographers teach their own dances.
The correct format follows:
Dizzy;JoThompson;MI
Jose Cuervo;Max
Perry;TX-2
If you would like to be added to my mailing list or if you would like to
know to which address to send your dances, please send an e-mail to
Lnda...@aol.com
Please document the number of instructors that are covered in your
submission. If I get a single email, I assume one or if there are two names on
it, I assume two.
Please put an asterisk by any dances that are taught by the
choreographer.
The following people gather information for the survey. If your area is not
on the list, please email your results to me at
LnDa...@aol.com. If you are willing to
compile lists for an area that is not currently served, please let me know. You
don't have to be the instructor to send me the list.
Thanks for your help,

DAVE
Nothing new (for me) with the Tuesday class, but I did share Niels's Melon
Heart cha with the main class & Kate's smootth west coast Love On Top with
the late-birds, dances well received at the Wednesday class.
A few new
beginners so back to basics for a while, then recaps of Open Book, Back In Time,
Skinny Jeans & A Little Love Worth Waiting 4 - Then Crazy Girl, Midnight
Mix, Not Without Us & Purr Kitty with the Improvers all going well. Dances
going well in the main class include Mr. Saxobeat, Haba Haba, Love 2 Dance, La
Luna, Move A Like & The Stomp - A quick recap of On the Edge
too.
Wednesday was inspired by our Scaroborough weekend with Maggie
& Dee which was great fun, with some of the class there, requesting me to
bring back the new ones - So with the early-birds we did Dee's cool new pop one
Make It Hot & Maggie's nightclub If You Were Mine - And in the main class
Maggie's new intermediate mainstream pop one Celebrate - All well received at
Scarborough & with the rest of the Wednesday class too - Sorry no sheets for
Maggie's dances just yet - Soon hopefully (If you write me I'll put you on my
mailing list for them).
We just practiced Monster In The Mirror to
finish off with the late-birds, because we had a big revision night Thursday
which we do every couple of months - In that I taught Joey's Descarada - This
was more for me really as I'd not done it & most of the gang had taught it
themselves !!! :-) - Also by request a classic Poetry In Motion - The rest of
the night lots of revision including Throw The Dice, That Kinda Lovin' &
Show Me The Love - A few more on the recap list for the 2 remaining late-bird
Wednesdays before Newline :-)
A couple of weekends off for us -
Final preparations for Newcastle Newline - And awaiting our 2nd grandson due a
week on Monday :-)
Cheers.

needed. We will furnish the huge dance floor, and DJ Dave, who is very receptive
to requests and keeps the music playin'!. We welcome couples, too! (We do offer
formal lesson during the week, with Instructor Marilyn; ask Norma for further

Subject: Using the Internet to Promote Linedancing.
Melva Gail Smith Louisville, KY Me...@netscape.com I was reading
the post about how when the Internet came along, it was suppose to pull everyone
together that linedanced. Just last month I wrote an article about a
website that promotes dancing in a very creative way. While the article
itself is about ballroom dancing I think it might be food for thought for
linedancing as well. At one of the two sites mentioned in it there is
information about an instructor who pretty much saved his business by using it
and it continues to feed students in his direction.
Hope this
helps someone,
Melva
At 85,000 Visitors A Month, AccessDance
Network Draws Attention To Ballroom Dance.
Once in a while I run into a dance
site that is so impressive and beneficial that it must be shared with our
readers. Providing the latest in technology to the dance industry, the
AccessDance Network found at
accessdance.com, is one of those sites.
"The
mission of the network is to use the Internet to get the everyday person
involved in ballroom dancing," said Ben Moseley, President of Dance Notions LLC,
and owner of the AccessDance Network. "We consult and develop the websites for a
number of organizations in the industry, and one of them is USA Dance Inc. We
build the website for USADance.org." he said.
So how does the network
operate? Ben compares it to Dancing With The Stars. "Think of Dancing with the
Stars on TV. The end product, the show itself; is the culmination of work by a
group of professionals that input their expert information about choreography
and technique to make non-dancers look great on the dance floor. Where they have
created a show to entertain and inspire millions on television, we've created a
comprehensive resource on the Internet to get people dancing. The site currently
receives as many as 85,000 visitors a month, giving a tremendous amount of
exposure to its members and having the potential to add a lot more dancers to
communities nationwide." Ben said. Dance organizations, competitions, studios,
independent instructors and even chapters of USA Dance that are members of
AccessDance, input a wide variety of articles and information on various topics
that are then displayed at the AccessDance.com website. These are then put into
a large range of categories so that when someone searches the internet for
information, it will direct them to the proper page. It is through this list of
categories and information that the reader learns about what members have to
offer in their local area. This is how many new dancers, who are lost at first;
learn about dance opportunities. It is also how members of the network in turn,
receive new dancers and grow their business. "It's about empowering them not
only to get their information on the Internet, but to get it on AccessDance.com
where it can be found! "Ben exclaimed. When someone googles for instance meet
new people in Louisville, KY, AccessDance.com currently comes up as #4 directing
them to dance opportunities offered by members rather than a never ending list
of singles sites.
Once at the site they can visit a variety of places
including dance lessons, dance competitions and the learning center. "Our
learning center is for people just getting into dance or for those that don't
even know that dancing could be a great addition to their life. Right now we
have about thirteen major topics, but are already planning to expand." Ben said.
One of these topics is Meeting New People, which is one of the most popular
reasons people first learn to dance. Other searchable topics include Wedding
dance, Health and Exercise, Looking for a New Hobby, Enhancing Your
Relationships, Pop Culture, Competition Dancesport and Giving the Gift of Dance.
"The true beauty of AccessDance is that the people contributing this
information are the same people who work hard to create ballroom dance
activities every day... our members," Ben said. "Our members are the
professionals and volunteers who create wonderful ballroom dance experiences for
others to enjoy every day. We do our job by building good quality websites that
are all members of the AccessDance Network, and our members do their job by
creating good quality dance opportunities and experiences, " Ben
concluded.
"We are at a point where we need to reach out beyond our website
and embrace more of what the Internet has to offer. Marketing and branding
ourselves in such places as Facebook and AccessDance will help us build our
brand awareness as a national organization and also help us to grow our
membership." said Esther Freeman, past president and current treasurer of USA
Dance Inc. "We have many goals. Efficiently using the Internet as one of the
tools to help us achieve them is an ongoing process. In fact, we have a new
"Tech Committee" now to help us evaluate and plan where we are and where we need
to take our online projects to reach those goals. AccessDance is one of our
options that looks promising." she added.
If you would like to see some of
the features that captured my attention while visiting this website, visit
http://www.accessdance.com.

SUBJECT: CELEBRATE DANCE! Toronto,
Canada
FROM: Vivienne Scott
Hi
everyone:
This past weekend dancers from Ontario and further afield
remembered Carmen Mah by Celebrating Dance at a 3 day event organized by her
husband Robert Mah. Carmen passed away last year at the age of
54. Carmen loved to go to events across Canada and the US and I'm
sure many of you will remember her. Carmen was a dedicated
instructor but more than anything just loved to dance and she rarely sat
down. The event was a most appropriate tribute to her and I'm sure she
would have loved it. Robert did an excellent job of organizing the
event down to making his own dance floors. He invited some of Carmen's
favourite international instructors/choreographers including Scott Blevins,
Rachael McEnaney, John Robinson, Joanne Brady, Amy Christian-Sohn and Jennifer
Choo Sue Chin (Malaysia). Gerard Murphy and Michele Perron flew in from
across Canada and local instructors/choreographers included Judy McDonald,
Double Trouble, Donna Laurin, Zandra McCallum and I was honoured to also be
invited.
A report and photos are now up on my website
www.stayinline.ca I have also
included the dances taught together with the levels.
Happy
dancin' to all!
