WEDNESDAY, 11/15.
Right after Thanksgiving I am going to be
sharing some coupons or offers that people have for gifts for Christmas or
whatever holiday you celebrate, so if you would like to send me something to
post, I'm getting them together. Maybe a discount on a pass? Dance
Supplies? Dance Shoes? Something you sell related to dancing?
Just send me the info and I'll include it in the list. If you're going to
spend money for the holidays, you might as well support your fellow dancers;
right? In case you didn't know, Stacy maintains a merchandise page
on the web site and it's free to advertise DANCE-RELATED things you sell.
We DO NOT endorse anything on the merchandise page so just use caution whenever
your order things online. We will remove things that we get complaints
about but fortunately that hasn't happened yet. Here's the link to the
Merchandise Page.

SUBJECT: TUESDAY CLASS AT BAYOU DANCE
CLUB LAST NIGHT, PINELLAS PARK, FL
We had a fun class last night with visitors from Canada, Vanessa and
Ron. They had just returned from having a great weekend at NYSOL and were
delightful. We had quite a few people missing last night but still a good
group. We celebrated Mary Mooers' birthday with a yummy cake (thanks, Mary
Ann). We are hoping for a good report from Ann and Neil regarding their
son's surgery day before yesterday. We miss you both. We are not
going to have class next Tuesday because so many people are gone for
Thanksgiving but are lining up a bunch of new dances the following week.
If there are dances you want to do from Tampa, NYSOL, and/or Vegas, let Diane
know so she can add them to the list and if you want to teach something (we all
volunteer to teach in our class), let her know that, also.

SUBJECT: VEGAS DANCE EXPLOSION 2016
FROM: JO
THOMPSON
Wow...where to start? Long post warning! Back home and even
though my feet are still aching, my heart is full from all the amazing moments
at the 2016 Las Vegas Line Dance Explosion! Thank you Doug and Jackie
Miranda for everything! You and your team of wonderful volunteers, "lovely
assistants" :-) and staff hospitality room hosts made the weekend an absolute
pleasure for all of us! Thank you to all who attended my classes...I
really, really appreciate it! I loved getting to social dance in the line
dance lobby and late night in the ballrooms with so many friends from all over
the world. The DJs Louis St.George, Jp Potter, Jill Babinec, Dave Baycroft
and Norman Gifford were all awesome! Getting to dance "Come Dance With Me"
on Thursday night with Nancy Hays singing live was so much fun! It was the
first time I've ever danced it with her singing live! Thank you to all the
instructors for doing such a wonderful job of learning, practicing and
performing the 1920's show routine. You are all so talented and I am
honored to be able to call you friends! Thank you Roy Verdonk for being my
partner in the 1920's routine...plus to all the Roy Verdonk dancers, thanks for
entertaining us each night in the shows...wow! Thank you Raymond
Sarlemijn for being the perfect waltz partner for our "Are You Lonesome Tonight"
- Elvis routine. Dancing with you is magic...like floating on a
cloud! Thank you Remco Zwijgers for doing my 1950's hair style for the
Elvis show...I'm so happy I found out you are a hairdresser...you are
amazing! In fact, when my hair was done and I got dressed for the show...I
looked in the mirror and saw my mom, Rita, staring back at me...just like
pictures I've seen of her from the 50's. BTW, Remco...after social dancing
till about 3am, I slept (a whole hour and a half) with my hair still up and all
the bobby pins set off the metal detector going through security at the airport
Monday morning!! Lol. To my amazingly sweet and beautiful roomie -
Maddison Glover - I can't believe we have just met...I feel I've know you all my
life. You are truly a rising star!! I loved learning "Shake That"
from you...it's my new favorite dance!! Guyton Mundy - You had us all in
tears on your last USA performance...love you...and I finally learned "Do
Something Crazy"...so much fun!! I enjoyed meeting super-talented Rebecca
Lee and learning Gimme Gimme Gimme! I also learned "Once In A While" from
Roy Hadisubroto and Fiona Murray...love it! Beautifully challenging!
For my workshops, I taught a technique class, my classic Splish Splash, Hot
Tamales Jr. (co-chor with John Robinson), Movin' and a Groovin', Lemonade
(co-chor with Malene Jakobsen), Keep It Groovin' (co-chor with Scott Blevins),
Mr. Santa (co-chor with Frank Trace), Having a Ball (chor by Denise Boyle) and
Tonight Again (chor by Team USA - Guyton Mundy, John Robinson and me). As
a special treat, I had dinner out with some of my lovely Canadian friends, had
an all too short catch up with my Colorado (and former Colorado) peeps and I got
to have lunch with my long time friend Tawanna K. Crabb as well as the stunning
former NY City Rockette, Jody Ghanem. Forgive me if I missed tagging
someone...maybe I'm just a little bit sleep deprived! :-) Roll on
2017!! Hope to see you all in Vegas next
year!

Subject: New York State of Line 2016
From: John
Korman pag...@comcast.net
This was Paul’s and mine first time at the Honors Haven resort and
attending New York of Line (NYSOL). From previously attending all-inclusive line
dance events, we knew what to expect. We were most excited that every dance is
fully taught two times throughout the weekend!
We arrived on Thursday evening and enjoyed the buffet with nearly half of
the weekend’s attendees. Once stuffed from dinner, we joined everyone in the
Pacific Ballroom for five bonus teaches and then open dancing and socializing in
the nightclub. My favorite dance of the night called "Stevie Ray" choreographed
by Pam, Windy City Choreography Winner was taught by Rona Kaye.
On Friday, the buffet breakfast was good and then I warmed up with Rosie
for a quick Zumba workout. Workshops began at 1030 (yeah!):
Rona Kaye taught “Recovering” (Guillaume Richard) – a pretty waltz
choreographed to a nice Celine Dion song. Two easy restarts. I loved hearing the
background of the song and choreographer (he is a nurse, like Paul)! Fabulous
teach! Dance played throughout the weekend and had a full floor each time.
Johanna Barnes taught her contemporary dance “Let It Go.” Pretty song and
dance.
Lorenzo Evans taught his (and Lynne Martino and Ruben Luna) dance “No
Better Love.” This phrased dance goes well with the music which sold me to take
this lesson. I love the original song by Chaka Khan and this remake/remix is
more upbeat and just as catchy. The best part are the four No-No-No-No walks
that match the lyrics nearly each time.
Scott Blevins taught his dance “The Wild Life.” Fun, peppy dance to a great
song track. No hard steps and the variations on walls 2 and 6 are even better
than the original choreography just because the variations hit the music so
perfectly. It was a great teach and he ensured everyone had the steps. Floor
filler every time played.
Trevor Thorton taught his dance “Coconut Water.” Good teach to a fun
song.
Rona Kaye taught “Pom Poms” (Fred Whitehouse, Daniel Trepat, Guillaume
Richard). The dance is super fun, peppy (just like the song), and the steps
match the lyrics perfectly – especially Part B! This was my favorite dance of
the weekend! It was even more fun on dancing it on Friday night during open
dancing with purple Pom Poms! This consistently filled dance floors each time
played.
The buffet lunch and dinner were scrumptious. While the demos for the
weekend were a bit long, all the attendees got a taste of each dance being
taught over the weekend. Afterward, open dancing filled four rooms all steps
from each other. Later that night, more food was set out for everyone to enjoy
as a continental breakfast. Once full of bagels and cream cheese spreads,
Marilyn McNeal taught an easy bonus dance to a classic oldie song, that was also
being taught in Las Vegas.
After a late night on Friday, the buffet breakfast on Saturday morning
revived me for Saturday workshops:
Trevor Thorton taught “Zillionaire” (also by Guyton Mundy and Will Craig).
The teach was good. Due to a late start, we only got to dance it one time and I
did not completely grasp it. Don’t let the two tags be a deterrent – they are
easy. The best part of the dance is the last section of Part B that is spot-on
with the song lyrics!
Rachael McEnaney-White taught her dance “Falling.” A beautiful, phrased NC2
dance choreographed to an infectious song from the Nashville television show.
The dance is beautiful and dance steps go well to the song.
Scott Blevins taught his dance “Make You Move.” I cannot believe I learned
a 144-count dance in 45 minutes! Scott did an awesome, yet quick teach – needed
to be quick so all steps could be learned, practiced, and danced at full speed.
Admittedly I do not have the complete dance after two teaches, but the steps and
sequence made sense. The best parts is the hop forward and back along with hip
bumps, and the push steps.
Debi Pancoast taught a wonderful 45-minute session on finesse on the dance
floor. This was a technique workshop that covered many body parts and styling
techniques. It was presented in a manner that I could relate to. While I was
conscious of what was shared the rest of the weekend (body frame), I hope to
continue practicing it. Time to put tape on the floor of the hallway and
practice turns by spotting (the room).
Scott Blevins taught his dance “Keep It Groovin” (also by Jo Thompson
Szymanski). Fun dance to a great track. Another solid, well-paced teach. Floor
filler every time played throughout the weekend.
Rona Kaye taught “Let’s Get Saved” by Daniel McInerney (one of the classic
dance teaches of the weekend). While I slightly remembered this dance from over
ten years ago, Rona’s teach was wonderful! While I had an advantage, the steps
and sequence came back by the end of the dance; reminded why this became a
classic dance!
The Saturday night buffet and show was super! Four rooms had open dancing
on Saturday night, again for all level of dancer and music. Karaoke competition
(Florida vs. New Jersey dancers) was also held offering laughs to all spectators
from their costumes and singing.
Because we could not go hungry, of course, ice cream sundaes were available
for everyone at midnight. With three flavors to choose from and toppings galore,
no one shuffled forward away hungry!
Did not take any lessons Sunday due to being overtired and having to head
back to DC.
We had a fantastic, jam-packed weekend - the event was superb! Getting back
on the dance floor since last April and more so seeing friends after such a long
time was the best! All we did all weekend was
dance-eat-dance-nap-dance-eat-<repeat>. Attendees could submit a handful
of dances ahead of time to be played nightly so while requests were accepted, a
dance list was created ahead of time for the DJs. This fun, laid back event made
this dance event one of the
best!

Subject: 18th Line Dancers’ Spring Break
April 26 – 30, 2017
From: Steve Lescarbeau, Event
Director
Our website is up to date with the registration available for
2017! This is the first time EVER in the history of Spring Break that I
have had so many deposits for 2017 already! Our venue can comfortably hold
about 200 people, with plenty of space for dancing and a place to sit with a
table. I like to keep this intimate, so will be watching registrations
very closely to cap it at 200 ppl. The hotel will be finished with their
transformation to the new Double Tree Myrtle Beach Resort. It is beautiful
already, but the ballrooms will be completed along with a brand new building
that will house the registration desk, oceanfront restaurant with outside
dining, a brand new lounge, also outdoor fire pits with seating! The rooms
have all been done over and the beds are incredible. The Springmaid Pier
was washed away by Hurricane Matthew, but the hotel is fine. Last year we
have a fantastic time and expect to have an even better time next year, if
that’s possible. Joining me are John Robinson, Will Craig, Johnny “2-Step”
Houston, Amy Glass and Dancin’ Dean. They will bring some fantastic dances
with them as always, and will have something for all levels. These guys
all work so well together, and will be on the floor right alongside you the
entire weekend. Dining with you, dancing with you, beaching it, clubbing
on Friday, min-golf and more! Come create some special memories with some
great people from our line dance community. Please visit
www.LineDancersSpringBreak.com
and send your deposit in today to secure your spot. If you need a roommate
please let me know ASAP.
