Monday 3/30 (Happy birthday to my son, Justin!!). I'm
BAAAAAACCCCCCCKKKKKK. We had so much fun in Boston and it even snowed for
a change up there. LOL. It wasn't really too cold and the day we
went into Boston, it was really nice and we only needed a light jacket to make
our way to Mike's Pastry and lunch at the Oyster Bar. Anyway, I'll tell
you all about everything in the report I'll be working on in the next couple of
days. Be sure and send your reports to me so I can include them in the
"Reports from Others" so you can get a full overview of the event and the dances
you like. Stacy will be working on the playlist and adding the videos she
has collected. There are also videos and photos being sold from the event
and I'll put that info in the report. I always like to include the reports
from any events you attend because it really does help to figure out which of
the dances were popular and gives people a heads up to at least give them a
look. There are so many dances out right now and there have been a lot of
events lately, so get your computer working and send them to me. If you
are shy about your writing skills, I usually read them and will correct obvious
things that need correcting if you ask me.
Thanks so, so much to Jen and Jason and their amazing staff for a fabulous
weekend at the Line Dance Showdown. I had so much fun and from everyone I
talked with, so did they. The instructors were fabulous and so were their
dances and the competition for both the Showdown and the USLDCC (42 entries, I
think). I watched the entire thing and everyone did such a good job.
I'll post the winners tomorrow so I don't miss anyone. Hope everyone had
as much fun as I did!! Thanks again, Jen and Jason, the entire staff, DJs,
Instructors and staff at this really nice hotel.

SUBJECT: Spring Fever Workshop with Ira Weisburd in Winter
Park, FL
What a wonderful workshop this past
Thursday (3/26). I thoroughly enjoyed myself and ALL the dances Ira
taught, as well as dancing so many of his previous hit dances. Every one
of them is dancer friendly where you could really enjoy them. Ira is an
energetic, personable, and patient man and you fully got your money's worth if
you came to learn line dances. He didn't stop from the moment he started
(except for lunch break). His wife is loads of fun and her crocodile
outfit was adorable as we danced Crocodile Roll.
Thanks to
Janina Brown and all her staff and helpers for a well run, organized
workshop. I'd attend again in a heartbeat!!

SUBJECT : IRA'S WORKSHOP
My first workshop, and it was SO Much FUN! So many fun dances to
learn and so many friends to greet, such a good lunch. Thanks, Ira, for
coming to us with your great dances. Thanks, Janina for working so hard to
make this happen so happily and smoothly.
From: Jan Royer
The workshop was one of the best ever. Ira's choice in music and
dances were exceptional with just the right mix of challenge and fun. The
venue and all details were perfect. Thank you for a perfect day.

SUBECT -
LDF (What exactly is it?)
On 21-Mar-2015 four venues in the UK held a "Day Of Dance" to raise
money for the LDF
I'm happy to say that over £6,000 was raised on the day.
So what exactly is the LDF and what does it do?
The LDF (Line Dance Foundation) was set up in 2007 by Betty Drummond from
Linedancer Magazine to give financial support to those people in the Linedance
World who have fallen on hard times either through accident, injury or illness
and cannot continue with their passion (perhaps only for a short time) -
Linedancing.
Although conceived in the UK, the UK is NOT the sole beneficiary, it is for
the entire Linedance community - World Wide.
The next LDF "Day Of Dance" will be held on Saturday 19-Mar-2016, but
anyone can hold a fund raiser anytime.
I DJ-ed at the event held in Glasgow, but I was surprised to find that a
lot of people supporting the event still did not realise what it does. So
hopefully this will help to raise the profile and initiate some more fund
raising world wide. Linedancing is global - let's have global fund
raising.
Please Note - NOBODY one the Board of Trustee's can receive any money
whatsoever from the LDF
John "Grrowler" Rowell - your dancin' DJ
Statement from Betty Drummond, June 2012
All the monies raised for the Line Dance Foundation are paid into a
suspense account for the LDF at Barclays Bank, Lord Street, Southport. The
account is Waypride Limited trading as Linedancer Magazine.
Sort Code 20-29-50 Account Number 50890138.
The account was opened in February 2007 with a payment of £530.30 from the
CBA that year. The Current balance is £8,109.77. So far beneficiary
payments stand at £2,673.75 (the odd amount being due to currency
conversion)
The LDF has a Board of Trustees; they are Steve Healey, Peter Metelnick,
Alison Biggs, Scott Blevins, Glenn Rogers and more recently, Cathy Hodgson. The
two signing authorities are myself (Chairman) and Lyndsey Naylor (Treasurer). It
is the Board of Trustees who consider the applications for beneficiary payments
100% of the money raised goes to the LDF. We do not take any deductions for any
reason.
So far requests for beneficiaries have been few but I am pleased to say
that 100% of the requests we have received have all been granted something. To
make an appeal just get in touch in any of the usual ways - there is nothing
formal about it.
The criteria for beneficiaries are anyone who earns their living through
line dance no matter how big or small. lf a person qualifies on that basis and
falls on hard times then, subject to funds being available, the LDF would be
happy to assist.
We don't have a great deal as you can see but often it is the small things
that mean the most. Covering taxi fares for hospital appointments, telephone
bills so people can stay in touch etc. at least it shows the rest of us care.
The largest single payment we have made is £1,000
It is only right that the Foundation keep details confidential. Personal
circumstances should not be made public and a free for all debate on whether
someone received a payment or was suitable or not would be unacceptable.
Finally, I fully understand why dancers may prefer to support a charity
with a more personal meaning but I have always believed in the Foundation and
what it could eventually become. It was when a Line Dance DJ who had worked his
socks off for years and years lost his voice and ability to work through throat
cancer that made me
investigate a charity for the Line Dance community. I discovered that Line
Dancing was, and still is, the only dance form NOT to have its own registered
charity. I saw the Foundation as a stepping stone to establish one.
It has been like pushing a boulder. uphill but now, with this new interest
and the wonderful support gathering, I'm hopeful the Foundation could enter a
new sphere.
I hope this help to clarify things and assure you that the LDF is
open to full scrutiny at any time.

SUBJECT: Dance Social in Naples
Jamie Leick
(tom_jam...@yahoo.com)
While lots of folks were dancing the night away in Boston, we were joining
you in spirit in Naples! We had our dance social last night with lots of
folks in attendance. New participants included Joan and Vince
Gregoire! Nice to see them again!
Our beginners were able to
dance all night with the dances they know how to do as floor splits with the
playlist. They were on the floor all night long having a really good
time. Their dances include: Canadian Stroll, Moving Hips, Cowboy
Boogie, Rumba Here Lately, Disco, Country As Can Be, Electric Slide, Barstool,
Charleston, T-Town Boogie, All About That Bass, Continental, Two Step, Eye
Candy, Stroll Along Cha Cha, Moves Like Jagger, Mamma Maria, Rita's Waltz,
(Don't Think) Just Waltz, Cupid Shuffle, Uptown Funk AB.
The playlist for the
night consisted of 60 songs with the following dances: 18 Lonely Months,
Wave On Wave, 3 Rounds, OMG! I Love This Song, Get My Name, Cowboy Stroll, They
Dance, Imelda's Way, Telepathy, Down To The River, Rock And Roll King, Tennessee
Waltz Surprise, Cecilia, Just Be, Clap Happy/Clap Along, Fly Like A Bird,
Fireball, That's The Day, Uptown Funk, Islands In The Stream, Back It Up,
Gentle, Caught In The Moonight, Alcazar, Night Train, I Thank You, You'll Be
Okay, Goodnight Kiss, I Don't Want This Night To End, Blurred Lines/Good Girl,
Mona Lisa, You and Me, Alabama Slammin', Come Dance With Me, Little Red Wagon,
Earned It, American Kids, All About That Bass, Young Volcanoes, Chandelier, I'm
No Good, High Cotton, Such A Fool,Stripes, Remix, Wonderland Waltz, Celebrate,
Silver Lining, Happy, Pull The Trigger, Counting Stars/ Simply Counting Stars,
Picnic Polka, Bosa Nova, Wakey Wakey, Love You Forever, Rollin' In The Deep,
Shotgun Mambo, WOW Hawaii, Mexi-fest, Yes.
This was the first time
a "late night" set was included with a 10 dance playlist of: Run Away With
You, Hard Work, Bo$$, Coming Unplugged, Off The Chain, Take Me To Church, Hit
The Floor, Undo, Get It Bae, Run.
As anyone who has put one
of these on knows, it absolutely CAN NOT be done without the help of lots of
others! Many, many thanks to my wonderful crew who helps to set up the
room before the event, clean up the room after, and lead the dances so everyone
has someone to follow (and we ALL know how great it is to have someone's feet to
follow!).
I, for one, had very tired feet when I went home last
night - and tired feet and HAPPY FEET! Looking forward to doing it
again... SOON!

Subject: Oh What A Night (and Weekend) It
Was!
From: Gerard Murphy
No border
crossings this time around! Unless you count flying over provincial
borders between Nova Scotia and Ontario? What a thrill it was to arrive in
St. Catharines, Ontario for the Canadian Line Dance Classic 2015 on March
20th. Close enough to Niagara Falls to almost FEELthe spray off the
water!
Thank you to Judy McDonald for inviting me to instruct this year. It
was a fantastic few days of teaching and dancing – with friends from Ontario and
beyond! SO many people contribute to the success of these large dance
events - too many to name here – however, each and everyone of the staff,
DJs and volunteers gave 100% to create the best possible dance experience for
the dancers that chose to spend their weekend with us. And I was pleased
to be a part of the team!
So many highlights! From dancing some of my “old” dances, to spending
time catching up with friends – to teaching some NEW, fun dances to enthusiastic
groups of eager dancers! I smile as I think about that glass of red wine,
those cupcakes with the green icing, the silliness that added to the fun of my
workshops, that voice singing WAVE ON WAVE (coming from somewhere!), the thrill
of getting through THE WAY with NO mistakes, our cruise meetup (two more weeks!)
and the many photo opps! And that’s just what pops to mind as I
type......
I was excited to share three NEW dances – all with NO tags or
restarts. It made life EASY and FUN! Dances on my list
included:
CANADIAN MAN (New – cool, west coast)
OH WHAT A NIGHT (New – the perfect
“sing-a-long” dance)
ELECTRO MAMA (New –easy, FUN, electro swing -
co-choreographed with Michele Perron)
ROMA CHA
DO IT! (Classic)
Thank you EVERYONE for the warm welcome! And I look forward to
connecting with you again soon on the dance floor. Please stay in touch on
Facebook and on Twitter (@gmdance).
Take care and cheers,

SUBJECT: DANCES THIS WEEK
FROM: BIG
DAVE
H all,
First of all a big thanks to Cathy for inviting me to
DJ the new York LDF day last weekend, it was an honour to be part of that - Well
done to Margaret, Paul & Ross for their cool new dances & hard work
& thanks to the 100+ dances who supported the event - Great job Manchester,
Glasgow & Milton Keynes too - I hope we get a few more areas joining in this
awesome dance day initiative - Let's make LDF day BIG - Come on organisers &
choreographers there's room for a few more on the UK map !! :-)
Small class this week & a nice chill time picking off the
recaps they especially wanted to do - No early-bird session though
...............
Taught two cool new dances which went well - Kate's
64/4 Break Me Up & Karl/Robbie's Alvaro - Both catchy mainstream
intermediate pop Cha's, Alvaro a racy East Coast speed (The next Alcazar maybe
??) - Great new dances that will make the Top 10 I reckon :-)
We
also recapped My Biscuit, Darling Hold My Hand, Highway Don't Care, All You Ever
& The Way You Look - Next week we'll also go back to Cardiology, Suite 215,
All The Way Down & Get Down On The Floor just 'to be sure to be sure',
others too :-) - Next week I'll teach something from Southport this weekend no
doubt - Looking forward to seeing the new dances :-)
Revision again
(Two weeks running !!) too in the late-bird session with Let's Turn It Up &
Twisted Sister - Next week they want to do Take Me To Church - I accept the
challenge !!! :-) ....... And in particular we'll recap Battle Scars if we have
time - And there's more, but most likely the week after !! lol
:-)
Busy busy here & just off to Southport - We'll get unpacked
& all ready for a good set-up day tomorrow after a few chill beers as ever
tonight - See you tomorrow if you are coming - We've got a fun weekend planned
with Maggie, Craig & Darren :-)
Happy dancing
everyone.
Dave.
*****Come & dance with us in San Francisco

March 25th
Great night at class again this week, the new dance was “LOVE ME LIKE YOU
DO” choreographed to the track of the same name by Ellie Goulding, another from
“Fifty Shades of Grey”. Lovely music, lovely dance, another that kept everyone
on the floor all three times we danced it. It’s a 64 count, 2 wall Intermediate
dance with 2 restarts choreographed by Ria Vos and I think this one will be
staying around for some time. Recapped last week’s dance “ALVARO” ( Robbie
McGowan Hickie & Karl-Harry Winson), they’re loving this one, a massive hit
with our dancers. Also recapped “HARD TO SAY IT” (Niels Poulsen) &
“CARDIOLOGY” (Gary Lafferty), both very popular and filling the floor.
Playlist was :- Dream Lover, Knocking On Wood, My First Love, One Track
Mind, Wow Tokyo, Something In The Air, Fly High, Yes, Belongs To You, Truth Or
Dare, Fireball, Beautiful In My Eyes, Alcazar, Samira, Cecilia, Love Me Like You
Do (twice), Wow Hawaii, Alvaro (twice), Uptown Funk, Hard To Say It,
Superheroes, Cardiology, Love Me Like You Do (again), Up, Shades Of Passion,
Badda Badda Swing, Young Blood & Diamonds & Dust.

SUBJECT: Voting in The Weekly
Survey

I agree Carol, I do wish more dancers would vote. It’s easy -copy paste
from week to week -just change up the dances as new favourites come along. I do
rely on the surveys to pick new teaches, it is more convincing when more
people vote. And thank you Carol for doing such a great job with this
newsletter.
