Happy Father’s Day to all those men and the women who step into the role, who take on the responsibility of fatherhood for the sake of children. The world is better because someone chose to step up: to protect, to teach, and to serve young people in need of guidance and support.
Today, I think of my father and the others who have shown up for me in that way throughout my life. I don’t think I fully understood the value of that love at the time. Perspective comes with time, and now I see more clearly just how meaningful those gifts were. I only wish I had recognized it sooner.
It’s possible that being a Father and now grandfather myself has given me a lot more insight into just how difficult this job can be.
Today, I sent my father flowers to his resting place and offer him a grateful hug across the distance, making sure he knows how much he is still loved.
Thank you, Dad, not for being perfect, but for being the perfect dad for me. That was more than enough.
Love you always,
Matt Loder, Sr.
