Subject:   Line Dance Showdown – Instructor Bios
From:  JC Dance Productions, Inc.

NOTE FROM ME:  This is long but I enjoyed reading it so hope you will, too.

Our friend Scott Blevins, said that many of you might not be familiar with the new faces that we have scheduled at the Line Dance Showdown.   Therefore, we are giving you a few bios and videos for everyone to check out.   We are VERY excited to have these new faces at our event.  Of course, we will have many of the same fabulous instructors that we have had in the past.

LINDA MCCORMACK
Winner of the World Dance Master Choreography Competition!!!   She won an all expense paid trip and teaching spot at the Line Dance Showdown.
Introduced to dance at the young age of 3, Linda studied Ballet, Tap, Modern, Disco and Acro-gymnastics which she sat yearly exams in progressing up through the levels in each style for 14 years. At the age of 16 Linda starred as one of the lead dancers alongside the Apollo Players performing show after show in the prestigious Kings Theater in Glasgow, one of the many venues she has been fortunate to dance in. Leaving school with 10 GCSE’s, 3 Highers and 1 Advanced Higher she moved on to study Dance at Reid Kerr College where she was trained by some of the best and most highly respected dancers in the country, adding Contemporary, Jazz, Lyrical, Commercial and Musical Theater into her dance vocabulary.

Linda started her love of line dance at the age of 13 where she started a local social class and was hooked straight away.  Soon after she started training competitively alongside her love of the social scene and began entering herself into as many competitions as she could find. Linda started competing in World Dance Masters competitions at the age of 17 in Newcomer and along the way she has picked many titles including recently winning the World Championship Advanced Open title, qualifying her for Allstars Division, the highest division in the World Dance Masters organization.

Linda also recently won both the Advanced Non Country and overall Non-Country Grand Champion titles for the World Dance Masters International Choreography Competition, with her entry dance, ‘Loving You.’

Linda continues to train competitively, teach and choreograph dances to release to the social scene and also plans to start training towards gaining her judging qualifications.

ROY HADISUBROTO
I started dancing when I was six years old.  Started with ballroom standard and Latin standard.

At the age of eight my parents brought me to a line dance club and I wasn't starting immediately. I wanted to learn the steps and saw that it was kind of similar to ballroom and Latin. Ever since then, I was hooked on line dance.

One day, Scooter Lee and Jo Thompson came to the Netherlands and suggested me to participate to the line dance competition.

At age 11, I entered my first competition and was dancing against loads of legendary people. I started to train more and won several titles.

At the age of 18, I won my first Superstar competition in the UCWDC.  I entered the dance academy for Performing Art and finished it.

I have been in several musicals like High School Musical the musical in the Netherlands and was also a background dancer for Lionel Richie.

Nowadays, I choreograph loads of stuff for competition, dinner shows or opening for big companies in Netherlands.

My first love for dancing will always be line dance. Socializing with people where everyone can enjoy the same dance all over the world.

KENNY J
Originally from Baltimore Maryland, Kenny J, now a Burlington NJ resident, is a retired Army First Sergeant and ex-drill Sergeant. In 2004 he was called to serve in IRAQ under Operation Iraqi Freedom and by the grace of God he has since returned and catapulted into becoming a major entity in the R&B/Soul line dance world. He is a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated and the Founder and CEO of I am Kenny J Productions, a dance organization that specializes in dance entertainment, performance and instruction.  His organization is established as one of the most philanthropic organizations in the dance community serving the entire Delaware Valley Region in its effort to reach and promote the virtues of line dance.  “Footwork with a Purpose” is its creed and has become a very visible presence in the lives of many.
A former member of the Dave Bush Dancers out of Philadelphia, PA, his special style of dance and ability to connect with people has provided him the opportunity to perform in various venues throughout the country.  His impact on others, however, reaches far beyond his fancy footwork.  He is recognized by his peers as one of the most prominent instructors in the line dance community with his ability to captivate audiences.  In 2008, he was voted entertainer of the year at the UC Awards, a Maryland line dance awards ceremony.  Kenny J’s success has taken him throughout the country to do workshops and performances, in places like Salina, Kansas at the Smokey Hill River Festival; Columbia, Missouri at the Columbia Arts Festival, Los Angeles, California and a host of others.  In many ways he and his organization are trailblazers doing whatever they can to promote the Delaware-New Jersey-Philadelphia region. His performance team “Sophisticated Funk” has performed throughout the country both competitively and non-competitively in venues like the Virginia Tri State SLYDE, The US Open swing dance Competition in Anaheim, California, and the United We Dance family reunion, held in various locations in the Midwest, exciting audiences with their unique dance style.  He has also appeared on the Dr. OZ show teaching the good doctor a Soul Line dance.
While there are many people to credit for his success, Kenny J gives credit first to his wife Lynn for being supportive and willing to give him the opportunity to do all that he does.  He also gives credit and special thanks to his current dance instructor, Ms. Barbara Capaldi of the Atrium Dance Studio; his longtime mentor and friend Mr. Dave Bush; the officers of his organization on the IAKJP Council and the officers and members of the IAKJP Social Club; and his many students and patrons that support his endeavors.

KARL HARRY WINSON
I started Line dancing in 2002 and got into it when my mum had a group of Line dancers for her Country and Western themed 50th Birthday (not giving away her age…cough cough) which she enjoyed so much then asked if I would join her in going to Line dance Classes. My first thought was “Are you kidding? I’m 13 years old and don’t really want to go Line dancing with my mum”. She dragged me along anyway. I remember the class was set up particularly because mum wanted to start Line dancing so we both went round and recruited people to come along with us who lived nearby. I didn’t really know what to expect the first time I went along but remember the first dance I learnt was ‘California Freeze’, from that moment I was hooked.

It was just after I started Line dancing that I also attended Stagecoach theatre school in Bournemouth, as my main ambition at the time was to be on the West End stage. I remember being in a dance class at Stagecoach and they told us to do a Grapevine, Chasse or a Kick-Ball Change step and I would be thinking “I have done this step before at Line dancing” and I think it was Line dance that helped me with my confidence on the stage and dancing in front of others as within Line dance you have so many different steps and styles I could incorporate that with what I was doing at the time.

I studied Performing Arts and Dance all the way through my education: G.C.S.E Drama, BTECH National Level Performing Arts at Brockenhurst College and then going on to gain a BA (Hons) Degree in Musical Theatre last year. Since finishing my degree I started to teach singing at theatre schools to young people who have the same ambition as I did when I wanted to be on the stage. One of these theatre schools is actually where I started, Stagecoach.

I also worked freelance at different schools, taking workshops, choreographing musicals such as West Side Story and Hairspray and teaching children who have the same passions in the theatre.  My next piece of theatre work is on the other side of the stage. I am in the process of Directing and Choreographing a Musical concert which will take place this November at Poole Lighthouse Theatre, entitled “The Legends” based on the legendary music, musicals and composers of the Musical Theatre world. With a cast of over 50 this will be quite a challenge but one that I am looking forward to doing. Other projects I have been working on at the moment is extra work for TV, recently being involved in documentaries for the Discovery Channel and also auditioning for the new feature film “Les Misérables”.

One of my many highlights came a few years ago when I met a certain choreographer in Torquay. I remember he asked me what dance I was dancing on the floor at that moment, I said to him ‘My Lady Soul’ which was one of my latest dances at the time. He then said he would like to take the dance away with him and asked for the step sheet. Alongside that he also invited me to choreograph a dance with him at some point, which I remember being very honoured and in shock that he would put faith in me to write a dance alongside him. The choreographer I am referring to is Robbie McGowan Hickie. I thank Robbie a lot for helping me in the Line dance world, for encouraging me with the choreography and for helping me get my face out there as a choreographer. We choreographed a few dances together, but the one I am most proud of is ‘Unpredictable’ which reached number 1 in the Linedancer chart. So I thank Robbie for taking a chance on me and trusting me.

I have been booked for many workshops this year and next year including workshops in the U.S.A and Canada, and to be honest couldn’t see myself do anything else. Line dancing is such an amazing form of dance and I am very proud to be part of it. Even though I have a strong passion for theatre, I don’t think anything comes close to my passion for Line dancing. The way I think Line dancing has evolved over the years with its music, steps and global interest is fascinating. You get to meet so many amazing people and watching a room full of people dancing your dance and having FUN is the highlight of it all. This was emphasized to me this year at the Crystal Boot Awards when I saw a room full of people dancing “Jealousy” in Blackpool. What an Amazing Feeling! When you see people enjoying it, it certainly makes it all worthwhile, and that’s the main thing, Enjoy It and have fun!

Note:  Karl choreographed WITHOUT FIRE. This dance was at the top of the survey for months.

Jerome came into the world of Line Dancing thru the help of Monica Bizzle and the whole Louisville Slyde Association.  Manifesting creative ideas among the locals, Jerome was able to generate a special creative style of Line Dancing to bring to Louisville within the first year of introduction.  After traveling to the east coast and mid west multiple times from 2005-2008, the history, love, and adoration of line dancing began to unfold.

By becoming an understudy of Line Dancing on a national level, Jerome developed a chemistry that proved to be a smash hit among all dancers around.  Every creation is laced with love and hours of hard work from all he has learned.  What sets Jerome’s dances apart from many others, are the uniqueness of moves and technique that’s displayed throughout each creation.

Next time you are doing one of Jerome’s Line Dances, remember he had you in mind!

Hope that helps you get to know these new instructors a little better.
